I'm glad it arrived allright! There seemed to be a bit of material in the waist that could be let out. And, yes, Elmo was underfed to be sure. Wish it fit a little better on you, but maybe you can get it to work!
How about $75? $50? It should go to a good home and be worn by someone who can really appreciate it. It's style and weight don't match the climate in which I live or my love of mid-century suits.
An old, heavy 'scratchy' wool with full heavy silk(?) lining tailored for a 'Capt. L.E. Mann October 1948.' made by Golding & Son Ltd., Sporting Tailors, Newmarket. I bought this a few years ago but have never really worn it. Judging by its excellent condition, no one has really worn it. There...
It is truly my pleasure to share this love that we all have for the beautiful styles of the past. It's an exclusive club, and one I'm proud to be a part of. Here are the photos I took after bringing the suit home:
One of two moth holes I found (see above)
The old silk(?) handkerchief I...
I have the suit! $73 + tax came out to $79 and some change. I've taken a lot of photos and will upload them after I get back from an outing with my 19 month old son. I promise, no drool or peanut butter will get near the suit!
Well, then...I'll go down and buy it tomorrow, as long as it hasn't been snatched up! I'll try to post a bit more in order to receive PM's. If one of my fellow FL'ers (I'm looking at you Baron) would like to then buy it, we can work out a mutually beneficial deal. I'm not looking to cash in...
I was doing some vintage suit shopping in one of my favorite stores today here in Austin and came across a beautiful 1937 suit worn by a man on his wedding day. The owner of the shop told me that his son had donated the suit, and there was a note inside the pocket describing that 'Elmo wore this...
I couldn't agree more, Good. That's part of what makes it such a pleasure to own. And, as far as I can tell, there has never been another one of Don Draper's suits up for auction. The ladies dresses have been auctioned off before at least twice, but never a suit like this. In fact, none of the...
Oh, I'll definitely keep it. I just enjoy owning it, even if I don't wear it. I've got plenty of vintage suits that I can slip into if I want to feel Mad Men-ish.
The Don Draper suit arrived last week and I've finally got some time to upload photos of me in it. I've tried to match some shots from an episode in which the suit is worn by Jon Hamm. In so doing, I realize two things: how great the suit is, and how not-as-handsome-as-Don Draper I am!
I've...
The photos that came with the auction show it as having been worn in Season 2 Episode 9, "Six Month Leave." I bought that episode in HD and studied the suit in that ep. against the one I bought. The photo in the online auction and their .PDF is low res, so it doesn't show all the detail in the...
Oh, I've got the skinny ties. The late 50's early 60's is my suit preference timeframe, although I have a great double-breasted 1940's suit in my closet, so this is very cool for me. Plus, I love the show and am glad that it's inspired suit fashions to veer more toward classic styles i.e. narrow...
I know it's not a golden age suit post, but I thought I'd share my newest acquisition with you. I was the only bidder for a Don Draper suit as worn by Jon Hamm on Mad Men:

I think that Hamm is...
I actually own the Shea Jacket, Ed Sullivan Suit and the Collarless Suit from Beatlesuits.com. Russ Lease, the owner and operator of the site and the creator of the clothes is tops in my book. He actually prefers if you call him and place the order to make sure that you are getting exactly what...
Here's a shot of me and my modern Open Road in front of of one of LBJ's Lincolns out at his ranch in June. I'm a proud owner of my OR, but I really want to get my hands on a vintage one. This modern one is stiff as a board, but I love it. I can only imagine how nice a vintage, buttery soft one...
I just received my Paul Fredrick tab collar shirt with french cuffs and monogram, all for $60.00 and some change. I'll try it on and let you know how it fits. It looks beautiful!
I'm a huge fan of vintage suits from mid-century, a la Mad Men and the original Ocean's 11, and I've been in search of tab collared shirts for a while now. Does anyone know of any good non-bespoke sources for them? I love the finished look of the skinny tie poking out from the tab collar and...
