If you said you looked like one celebrity from the Golden Era...

Oh, I love Vera Ellen!! She always seemed so genuinely nice in her films! And she was an excellent dancer, which more than made up for any problems she had with singing. You can't be good at everything, but she was certainly good at a lot more things than most people, myself definitely included! :)

I've finally found a decent picture of me without my braces - yay! Any ideas?

    Great Movie Soundtracks

Absolutely; I completely agree. It is such a shame that original compositions get dropped in favour of chart hits. That's good news about Tombstone though - another of my favourite films. :)

    costume party scenes?

I did a quick search of keywords on the IMDb and came up with these: Fast Life (1932) Blue Montana Skies (1939) This Time for Keeps (1942) Rebecca (1940) Love Me Tonight (1932) Dead of Night (1945) There's also this one from 1929 (so unfortunately not 30s or 40s). One Hysterical...

BBC Supersizers Eat... 1920's and 1950's diet.

I absolutely LOVE this series! Giles Coren is a matinee idol if ever there was one!! It's amazing how much people's lifestyle and diet have changed, even since the 1920s. It always amuses me when the doctor tells them that the period food is going to be incredibly unhealthy and that they'll...

    Great Movie Soundtracks

The entire score for 'Chariots of Fire' by Vangelis. The opening scene is an absolute classic. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/L-7Vu7cqB20&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param...

Video games based in the golden era

There's also a nice version of Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express by the Adventure Company. It's a little complicated at points, but well worth the persistence.

Inside Steve Jobs' abandoned Jackling mansion

How awful to want to demolish it!!! That house could be amazing if it were properly restored!

favorite cars of the golden era

I have been reading this thread "ooh-ing" and "aah-ing" at all the utterly fabulous cars! My personal favourite cars from the golden era would have to be: 1924 Hispano-Suiza Tulipwood Torpedo 1935 Duesenberg Convertible Phaeton 1939 Delahaye Type 165 M

    Valkyrie

I saw it a few weeks ago and I really enjoyed it. I usually don't like Tom Cruise but I was pleasantly surprised. It really didn't seem like a 'Tom Cruise movie', perhaps because it's such an ensemble piece. I thought the acting was very good, and I even felt a sense of tension - quite an...

New Ladies and Gents Step Forward

Hi! :-) I'm a university student studying History, I think my favourite decade is the 40s and I collect pretty much anything vintage. I've been regular visitor to the lounge for a few months, but I didn't have a suitable email address to join until now (I only had a free email account...

Modern Products with Vintage Style Packaging

I use that too - it's so handy for air travel, what with all the restrictions on liquids there are now. Doesn't their website say you can use it to wash clothes too?!

Modern Products with Vintage Style Packaging

I just love Tick Tock Tea. The tea itself is really nice but even if it wasn't I'd probably buy it specially for the box! :) And it even comes in a nice green package for the green-tea!

If you said you looked like one celebrity from the Golden Era...

I'd say either grown-up Shirley Temple or Jane Powell - or a mixture of both. :)
