Hi Jeep-a-Holic. There are a number of folks who make the nametags on ebay. Same with the squadron patch, which had to be custom painted. That's the route I went.
I think your hat rather exceeds the original. Mine is nice, but these two hats of yours are superior. The leather visor you've got is something I've been looking for but been unable to find, though it might be a tad longer on yours. The downward angle is perfect. It is very hard to find a...
Sorry it has taken so long to respond folks; I think my spamfilter is catching FL messages, so I wasn't aware this thread had been revived. I didn't find out until my photo host noted that people had been looking at my jacket pics. So...answers where I can provide them.
The jacket looks...
Went to the flea market and picked up this (presumably) G1 jacket, then came home and immediately sold it to a friend who had been looking for one. Fits him like a glove. It's in good shape too, given other older jackets of this type I've picked up for cheap over the years. Nylon liner is...
Setting aside the family history, your jacket is a real prize. The pin-up back is classic. I think your idea of having it reproduced is an excellent one; in fact, I did the same in reproducing my own grandfather's jacket...
Guy buys an original WWII A-2 at GOODWILL for $17, and tracks down it's original owner to give back to him.
Heartwarming tale and all, I have to admit though, this line from the vet makes me a bit nervous:
“I couldn’t figure out why anyone would want the jacket after all these years,” he...
Thanks guys. So far so good. In the next few weeks I hope to stencil in the missions. Hope my luck holds out.
As of next week they're reassigning me to the apocalyptic ruin we like to call "downtown", so that heavy leather might make for handy insulation against broken glass, hypodermic...
I posted this on VLJ forum, but though some folks here might like it as well. I wanted to have a jacket similar to what my grandfather would have worn when he piloted B-25s in the Mediterranean during WWII. He was with the 446th Bomb Squadron, and during my research to build the jacket, I...
I'll second the rag soaked with rubbing alcohol. I recently did this to a near-new condition jacket that had a pretty glossy protective coating. Applied lightly, the shiny coating will come right off. Heavier application will pull out some of the color, which is fine if you want an aged look...
This might not be what Johnny had in mind, but I wonder what it would look like with a substantially darker shade of shoe polish or meltonian cream over the top. Naturally the color would be easily susceptable to wear, but I suspect the end result could resemble some of the well-worn seal brown...
lol
As I was looking at the pics, my wife came by, glanced over my shoulder, assumed I was shopping, and said "Errr..You're not buying another leather jacket are you?"
I really had to laugh when I reached the end of this thread. I'm not alone after all. Probably not the first to say "Oh...
Those are indeed some pretty wide collars. So it looks like my jacket isn't as inaccurate as I thought.
Does this mean I shouldn't include the disco ball and platform heels on the jacket art? ;)
Thanks for your input guys.
The discussion of the "large" collar on the fine A-2 copy Fishmeok's made got me looking at the collar on my recent acquisition, a Flight Apparel Industries A-2 (I'm not psychologically ready to patch-up and paint an Aero yet!).
As mentioned in other threads here, the FAI A-2 was a generic...
Thanks for the pointer Bill. I've also been looking for replacement buttons for an AN6552. I've ordered the sepia buttons, which I hope will be right for this jacket; the buttons on other original jackets look pretty dark to my eyes. I'll pass a couple on to Fedoralover if he still needs 'em.
It's nice to see I'm not the only one in town whose wardrobe does not consist of hemp tie-dye! Yup, picked it up at Picc-a-Dilly, along with everything else I own.
The jacket is pretty small, 17.5" across the shoulders, 25" down the back, and 24" down the sleeves. I'm a WWII collector...
An AN-6552 flight jacket! Just laying out on someone's table with all the other junk!
Only problem I can find with it is it is missing the pocket buttons and there is a opened seam in the lining. Otherwise, magnifique!
One of my favorite display hats. This is a Soviet Ushanka issued to a US soldier during WWII. Yes, that's right. He was a paratrooper captured by the Germans in Sicily, then shipped to a POW camp in Poland. When the Russians liberated the camp in '45, his uniform was so inadequate in the cold...
I'm not going to comb through another state's case law over this, especially when it is less a matter of legal statute, and more so a matter of simple English vocabulary. And if the statute doesn't define "malice", it is because malice itself is not itself a crime, and "malicious intent" is not...
They are two different things, nobody said otherwise.
When I studied Crim. Justice the instructor made something clear right off the bat - in order for something to be a crime, you have to have intent and action. One without the other is not a crime, no matter what the results. The...
