    My First Adam

Also, I note that the internal band is lined with some sort of plastic wire. This may be why it's said "good luck getting the Adam to stretch" (?)

    My First Adam

Which is a good reminder. If I treat it, it won't be with anything that alters the colors. It seems that much of the aesthetic on these vintage hats is about the colors. To remove a couple of minor soiled spots on this baby, I brushed it with denatured alcohol. My routine procedure. But this...

    My First Adam

Yep. It's a green size/model label. and it's not Pliant-eze or aqua-shed. and it's a $7.50 price. The three-crest liner, not the three hats. I don't know what this means yet. Perusing that Adam thread and stuff.

    My First Adam

Just picked up an Adam from a thrift store. Don't know much about them, though I've heard of the brand before. Ten bucks, and I was like "yeah...".

Borsalino for $12 at a local consignment shop. I was like "what the..." and "you're kidding...". It is one size too small for me. I'm considering softening the band with lanolin and loading it up on the stretcher. The hat people on Youtube say you stand a good chance of ending up with a...

I take one part dewaxed blonde shellac flakes to four parts denatured alcohol (roughly eyeball it at the side of an alcohol bottle) and let it sit overnight to dissolve. This I brush all-round a hat till it's kind of evenly damp, and let it dry. If there's not enough desired pop , I repeat.

    The toughest hat

This is the sort of Stratton I find desirable. Those with the pattern of holes on the sides = not so much. I could see bashing this baby to a teardrop. And I like the grommets for the chin strap.

    The toughest hat

In that case, you might well look into those Stratton cop hats. They're on Ebay a lot and are bound to be tough, I bet.

    The toughest hat

Assuming you want something already a fedora, that is, you're not into bashing. And you're not into treating with chemicals or oils/waxes, I'd say the Akubra Federation types are what you're looking for. Seems to be a known thing among the hat people, that those babies are tough.

    The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Thank you for the pictures. Held one?- No, I have not. My appreciation for the vintage stuff is evolving. Who knows what's next, but for now, these furry guys look like Blacksploitation comic mohair pimp hats. No offense of any kind to anybody. One thing I find dislikable is the modern pop...

    The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

It's funny about that. I'm a sort of compulsive/addictive collector and thrifty-bargain gambler/spender, so when I see Super Extra Supremo Quality and words like that, it sends a bioelectrical charge into my hypothalamus or somewhere, and then I'm all "Oooh, Super Quality! I need that right now!"

    The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Well, these hairy things are not to my liking, but there's no arguing the quality. Say, in your experience are these longhairs always Extra Extra or are they not necessarily?

Beautiful hat. Sfinge is on Steur's chart of Colors-Natural. Googling tells me that it's Italian for "Sphinx" so maybe it refers to a sandy or sandstone type hue.

Whoa! Now that's an impressive research and analysis.

    The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

The model calls itself Torino, which I'm told means the city of Turin. Imported by Patterson Fletcher of Fort Wayne. And here's my ugly mug wearing it. I just need a Superman shirt. Not a bad deal for $35 I must say.

Thank you, Blare. Hey, maybe the number to the right means year 1959? August 12 or hat number 812 or something.

Okay, "Uranio" is the color, a kind of grey.

    The BORSALINO BROTHERHOOD

Picked up a Borsalino real cheap. 2 inch bound brim, 1 3/4 ribbon. Quality-superior. Got that vintage look, like something Clark Kent would wear in the 60's. older-type label I'm not familiar with. Interpretations, please?
