Art, I wanted to make sure this reached you personally before launching into a some long, sentimental gratitude-laden holiday greeting, but I'll wait until you reply. Sincerely, Spatterdash, from way back.
Sweet screamin' monkeys.
If they ever offer that shoe in dark brown with a tan top, or in black with a gray top, I'm eating spam for a month and buyin' those.
Funny things about the OP article.
It clearly indicates the fedora was "country" wear, not appropriate for urban centers, yet by the thirties and the forties, the fedora was the hat of the man about town, the ultimate urban cover.
Seems the world has been embracing casualwear and dressing...
That was my wording, and I have yet to read that the seasonal chart, though useful, is accepted widely enough to be considered officially proper.
No, I don't owe an attribution when sharing my opinion, which I specifically said my comment was.
The "Most" would be the majority of those who...
You had a number of reasonable and civilized options for defending/supporting either the wearing of black or the seasonal color chart without making a snide comment about ignoring good taste.
BanjoMerlin,
I'm gonna agree and disagree here. This is merely my opinion.
Black is harsh and vivid, depending on the beholder and the setting. It's a personal thing.
The general view among most these days, however, is that black is a formal choice, and it rarely compliments the other...
The cigarette went through the same adoption. It was seen as a woman's tobacco product, but the convenience of them quickly led to their usage among men.
As for the fedora, I wonder if it was easily accepted because wide brim soft hats were already on the scene. Slouch hats and homburgs...
I'd agree with the others. The modern idea that "black goes with everything" really isn't true.
Black is too harsh a choice, and should be reserved for the moments when one would wear black, i.e., funerals or semi-formal events... and of course, Halloween. It's an elegant choice with a black...
Casually curious or genuinely concerned? Is there an issue we should know about, or are you just wondering, Steven?
If there is a problem, I'd want to know.
Hat Ribbon Supplier Review
Hey, gang.
Wanted to post a review.
I think a few of you may have heard of this gentleman. He goes by the name "petitour" on the Bay and he has a wide variety of cotton/rayon hat ribbon. He sells 6, 9, 12, 16 and 19 ligne, and sometimes 4 and 22, in a good...
Tomasso,
They may be, as a number of their discountinued styles are.
The idea would be for the Broadstreet to be available as a standard retail item, and not a high-dollar custom order.
For those unfamiliar with the shoe, it's a classic wingtip with fabric uppers - nylon weave, I think - that Allen Edmonds used to offer for summer wear.
Our own Matt Deckard had a pair recently recrafted, and both he and the Allen Edmond CEO mentioned them in their blogs.
Well, today at...
You could make a flange the same way a lot of us have made blocks, I suppose.
You'd need a few pieces of wide lumber or mdf, and it would need to be at least an inch thick.
You cut a doughnut out, with the center hole the exact oval of your hat crown, and the doughnut would be about 2 3/4 to...
You've had shoe cream dry out leather.
Okay.
Well, I've never had wax paste turn a shoe into a cracked mess, but it was much drier after many years than a shoe cared for with cream and conditioner.
Normally, when a shoe is cracked and dry, it's been in storage for a long time, and the...
I did what others have done - a handmade block with glued ovals of 2 inch thick wood, sanded to shape and water sealed.
But in a pinch, if you don't plan to do a lot of blocking, that plastic shell and a high-wall hat stretcher from the bay is genius.
Now we just need a source for them...
Another nay-sayer?
Really?
Well, since the designer and guests have all called them spats, and since-
A) understraps are visible in some the pics, and
B) Side buttons can be seen,...
I'm gonna say the reports are accurate and say they are spats, or spatterdashes if you prefer.
No...
