The four-day western NC deluge seemingly over, I’ve put up the rain hats in favor of one of my new straws. Wearing the Dobbs Hemp Rosebud with my daughter at the downtown Asheville Starbucks.
Rain has set in for the week here in western NC. Breaking out the all weather gear. Today is the Stetson Gable Rain Hat which I have treated with silicone waterproofing spray. It’s not fancy but looks decent and laughs at rainstorms.
This is funny. I just now stumbled onto it a month after your post. In Western North Carolina's quirky spring/summer weather I don't even know what I'll be finishing out the day wearing, let alone what I'll be wearing tomorrow.
I'll speak for myself here - I don't think you can go wrong with a Stetson Hemp in any style they make. I've got three, including the Stratoliner. It has a nice limber feel that keeps its shape, is well ventilated, responds very well to a good steam if you want to change anything, and seems...
Yes it breathes some but it's all relative. It's definitely not air tight because I can see light through all the holes between the weave. Air definitely passes through because I can feel it. That said, it's not as airy as the hemp Stetsons, which in turn aren't as airy as the Dobbs Hemp...
I've been neglecting one of my straws lately because of several recent new straw purchases, so I'm giving it some attention today. It's my Stetson Plastic Bucket, AKA Latte Florentine Milan.
I agree with you that "plastic bucket" is a little harsh. I have woken up before with a plastic bucket on my head and I'm here to say they're nothing similar whatsoever.
But seriously - I think your Strat is a nice-looking hat. I've been getting into hemp straw more recently but I don't have...
Western NC didn't get out of the 60's with clouds today so I was happy to get another wear out of this Stetson Fifteen 3X. It's one of my favorites for spring and fall - so comfy.
Thank you. Honestly, I think hemp has become my favorite straw. It’s perfect for hot and humid North Carolina summers where there’s a risk of a rain shower just about every afternoon. I’m telling myself I won’t be buying any more this season.
Thank you very much, Joe! Fortunately the hemp straw responded nicely to my skills (lack of) and high quality hat steamer (tea kettle). Seriously it was surprisingly forgiving.
Heading out for some morning errands in my Dobbs Hemp Rosebud. It's a recent purchase, but after wearing it a few times I decided didn't care much for its center dent. Thanks partly to the confidence I've gotten from this forum I put a little steam to it and made it something I like quite a bit.
Wearing the Hemp Straw “Open Strat-road-oliner” today. They must have been running short on Strat sweatbands the day mine was made. It’s actually a wonderful hat - brim snapped up or down.
