+1 Since I only have a vague memory of being a 20 something, my physical proportions do not allow me to successfully pull off a Justin Timberlake stingy brim and I have less than zero interest in appearing to be an aging hipster I really must pass on the street punk fedoras. Since what others...
OK, on the straw hat vs. felt hat issue. My research seems to identify 15 May as the date to start wearing straw hats. I've seen felt hat day as anywhere from 01 Sept to 15 Sept (although 15 Sept seems pretty definitive.) The logic is sound. After 15 May the function of a hat is shade as...
What we have here is a basic lack of home training. I mean that's day one stuff. When a man extends his hand shake it, open doors for ladies, respect your elders, and above all else, KEEP YOUR FILTHY (*hands*) OFF ANOTHER MAN"S HAT!!!!
I must say my Panama is off to you for your restraint...
I've read in various places that Panama hats are a poor choice for rainy days. Should I switch to a wool felt hat on rainy days? Will exposure to rain ruin a Panama?
Thanks Billy,
The stache is an ongoing project, unfortunately I no longer have enough head hair to worry about so I figured I'd style my soup strainer instead lol
The hat is my around the house and weekend beater. I'll pull out my good work Panama tomorrow.
No Dog Rockets for the Fat Man
Sorry fellas just not feeling the stogies. For me it's Prince Albert in a freakishly hideous (but very reliable) no name rhodesian. Ironically I grew up in the Cigar City (Tampa) and never took the habit. Now that I think about it, I don't golf either.
Please do it and post pics, I've been wondering about snakeskin bands for a while, I bet it would look pretty keen on a tan colored Campdraft and a 9 button rattle would make a really nice "feather" for such a hat band. My problem is all the on-line sources seem to sell western (as opposed to...
Carter,
Great looking lid for sure my friend, looking dapper as usual. I think it's a little known codicle of the FL by laws that if you sport a panama and flowerdy shirt, you get extra credit if you shaved with a classic safety razor and either used bay rum aftershave or drank a mojito after...
Strictly a brown (and shades of) and straw guy myself. I guess 25 years in fatigues, BDUs and flightsuits, sealed my fate. Oddly enough though since leaving the military in 2005 I've had a total aversion to black shoes. And wear exclusively brown shoes so that may have something to do with my...
Sure, go for it. It's a southern thing, the weather doesn't always match the calendar. It's peeking into mid/high 80's here with matching humidity. And I don't know if I can speak for the entire Florida contingent but I for one am about two weeks into straw hat season even as we speak.
It just occurred to me that I'm just about on track with Gene's plan. My use of straw hats commenced approximately on the spring forward day so I guess it's back to felt when we fall back.
AKUBRAS in the Mall!?
That's it, I'm moving to Australia! Never a big fan of vegamite but hey, for a walk in store I can buy an Akubra from, I'll learn. The hat shacks here have nothing but baseball caps. Any way back on topic, if you're on a budget, panama hats direct is a good bet...
