Nice. I have a Blue Mountain myself, but haven't worn it much.
Every time you post, I miss Japan! I've been there at least 16 times, mostly for business but not all, I love Japan! I had a very close friend in Ashiya and usually would take a day when in Tokyo and visit him, up and back in one...
Larry Parks (left), my best friends' Dad growing up in the 50's. Starred in Al Jolsen story and many other major movies until blacklisted by Senator McCarthy in early 50's.
Keeping with the theme, Hopalong Cassidy [William Boyd], center. Hopalong lived next door to my grandmother when I was a little tyke, would visit him often and most enjoyed getting to sit in his car and mess with it. (I was born a car guy, not into horses!)
I intended to put this in the thread with general vintage photos but couldn't find it, but this still seems appropriate as it is a hat store! This is the original location of a local SoCal chain of restaurants, famous for their hot pastrami sandwiches (which they may claim they invented). Pic...
Rich Uncle Pennybags, the Monopoly game figure, shows some of his “funny money” as he prepares to strike the opening bell at the American Stock Exchange in New York 07 February, 1995. The popular board game is celebrating its 60th anniversary for Hasbro and has sold more than 160 million copies...
(This was supposed to be my reply included in post above)
Closest I've ever come to Toyama is Chino / Suwa City (used to have a client there). I've visited Japan around 16 times and love Japan. Also many times to Ashiya (nearer your home), had a very close friend there and would always take a...
My first eBay hat purchase. Akubra "The Boss". I'd say close to new condition, needs a little cleaning but no defects. My second Akubra, the first was a recently acquired new Akubra Blue Mountains from The Hattery.
EDIT: eBay pics added.
My English born grandmother (1897-1997) always talked about getting the 100th birthday card from the Queen. Somehow, I think it kept her going. She made it, we threw a big party for her at a famous Scottish/English steak house (she walked in by herself), and got her the Queen's card. She died...
My new Akubra Blue Mountains from The Hattery in Katoomba, Aus., arrived today. I ordered a week ago Sunday and was surprised it got here so fast, although I did pay $8 extra for EMS shipping. I think I'm going to like this one a lot. More when I have a chance.
Attached are pics of my Open Road Pure. Didn't have a better way to get the measurements at the time but these should be pretty close. Hat is "True Blue", beautiful color, but looks black in these photos.
As an aside, all my Stetsons fit perfectly in 7 1/4, but the Pure is loose and needed hat...
Stumbled across the Akubra "Blue Mountains" (special edition for The Hattery in Australia), and loved the color (Bluegrass Green). Couldn't resist, ordered it with expedited shipping. It appears to be in stock, so hope it gets here fast. My first Akubra.
biffnix - Welcome. Nice hat, fits you well.
FYI, I bought a Stetson Pure Open Road from Delmonico, and it too was a bit large for me, although my four other Stetson's fit spot on. You would think the Pure line would fit perfectly considering it is near top of the line, so surprising we both had...
I'm not sure hats are actually mentioned in this, but they gots some big hats, and if you don't get a bunch of laughs watching this, you gots sumtin wrong! (This has been watched 45 million times on youtube.)
How did you get the grease out of the hat?
In my college fraternity hell week 1969), we had to keep our limited rations under our caps, consisting of spam and dried out bread rolls. I'm sure I threw that cap out after that ordeal.
