Help with {date or identify} a hat please.....!

This is an oddball I had to buy at a local Oakland thrift store. Seems like the historic old school surf brand commissioned a local Oakland company for Headwear? It's cool and probably 1970s... But sure doesn't scream "surf culture"? Or maybe it does and i don't know what I'm talking about...

    German & Austrian Hutmachers

Got this hat for free at the end of the port costa town wide garage sale. The velour fur is SO SOFT! I could pet it all day. Lol! Liner is long gone. What is it? Like a 1970s Rockel house brand or something? I'll try to shape the feather and take it out for a spin.

    Golden Bear?

I can't speak to current golden bear, but to say flatly they're merely a step above wilson is not accurate. I have 2 golden bear. A late 70s goatskin A2 variant. 1 piece back and 2 piece arms/sleeves. Nice slim fit. Another is a 90s ll bean goatskin bomber, real shearling lining with a real...

    M65 aluminum zipper replacement?

I'm looking mainly for the brass wire pull for my 1964 Ralph Edwards G-1. It has a YKK replacement zipper. Figure a brass wire pull would be close enough for the most part. If anyone has a spare, let me know. I can pay for one.

    The School of Hard Knox

thank you for the informative response! i THINK the inner tip is oil skin. it's textured and opaque with perhaps a touch of greasiness to it. yeah, i thought about looking behind the sweatband. i've conditioned it with Bick 4, but i don't wanna risk tearing it. here's an image from the...

how common were more stingy brim Knox hats earlier than, say, the 1960s? i assume there were some in the 50's? any earlier? i bought this Knox 20 for... $20 online (seemed fitting). pretty clean. sweatband was split at the back. i put some faux leather adhesive tape behind it and touched it up...

What to wear with a fedora....

I'm new to hats. I've thrifted everything else, but finding a decent hat has proved elusive. I wanted one that I felt would work with casual attire... Like jeans, leather jacket, boots, etc. I gave up and just went to Mars mercantile in Berkeley, CA.They seem to always have German and Austrian...

What level and Era is a Knox hat that just says Knox custom? Meaning has no other model delineation. Are all Knox fedoras fur felt? Or there were some wool ones?

    German & Austrian Hutmachers

Thank you so much for the advice! I've been getting more intrigued by hats as middle age has brought the onset of make pattern baldness. Gah! Of course today, I found a $4 Stetson Panama hat, but obviously different styles. I messed up months ago by leaving a super soft Churchill fedora...

    German & Austrian Hutmachers

Hi all, first post! I go to thrift stores on a regular basis but finding decent hats has been surprisingly difficult. I decided screw it, just go to a store. Mars mercantile in Berkeley always has a large selection of German Trilby hats for some reason. Wonder if the owner is into them or...
