Just acquired this Stetson Moose River for 75$ CAD from a thrift store. Been wanting a shorter brim Silverbelly for a while now!
I felt the felt (ha) was a bit off but also it's nowhere near the Vintage Stetsons. I realize now it's probably wool felt. Wish it was beaver but I want to wear this...

hi,
As the title states, looking to fill my collection for something more summer-y
Size: 55, 6 7/8
Color: silverbelly (light) or white
Felt: 100% beaver, something nice and soft and pliable
Condition: good, no holes or anything
Preferably a brim ribbon edge, but open to seeing what's available...
Wore this beautiful 1930s Black Stetson yesterday. For some reason, I wasn't wearing this hat that much even though cheap black fedoras was how I got into hats, and black is just the color I wear all the time - but then I decided to modify it slightly adding a little bandana and a feather and I...
oh that's interesting!
I know it's a wind up mechanical for the movement (says MSR 17 jewels T44 on the back) but I don't know much else than that. One watchmaker told me it was a screw of some kind. I may have found a watchmaker in my city that can fix it but with selfquarantine, it's not a...
I wrote them for more information, and there is a tiny stain, not too bad, and a small pinhole I couldn't see in photos.
She also said it's more of a desaturated type of color, so I'm thinking it might be less yellow than my Stetson so.. hmmm. I don't have a 2.5in brim in my collection
is it a...
Since I doubt anyone on the lounge is my tiny head shape, I think it's safe to post here. I stumbled upon this, although I have a silverbelly 1950s Stetson so I don't really need another, unless it's a different tone (lighter than mine) and I could change up the ribbon. What are your thoughts...
I have 3 vintage Stetsons, all from members of the lounge, I can attest to these 1950s and pre versions being the best, I'm spoiled and can no longer get anything else. I visited a store that had modern Stetsons, the felt is still soft hand touch wise (not pliability) though not like the...
the Winchester I have from GAnnon is Western weight and it's either the felt or Gannon, but as much as I like my hat, it's not my favorite. It's my favorite shape, and the details but the hand and the tightness of the felt, it's lacking for me. I don't know if it's because it's Western Weight or...
thank you!!
That seems to be a trend for hats, well Stetson anyway I don't know enough about Dobbs and Borsalino, but also heard Stetson after 60s they weren't as good. This has to do with some time period and economy? Did all companies go through the same shift in dropped quality after the 50/60s?
I'm not educated on Knox' though I have heard that come up a lot.
Borasalino, Knox, Dobbs. In terms of quality does it go from 40, 50, 100, from least good to best?
What era should I be looking at?
Thanks! (I really shouldn't be tempted ha why am I asking about this hat)
Were you not pleased with the hat from 2 years ago?
I am definitely getting a FESPA felt for my next custom. I know there is HUFVUD and HORNSKOV, but Hornskov has fewer options for colors. Hornskov also does finish the hats with fire, I don't know if Hufvud does? Not every hatter does this...
Thanks for the link! I just did a quick look on the bay and didn't stumble on that one (though I am in Canada).
I don't know why but browns never attracted me. I'm more into the light beiges (light silverbellies), black and greys.
It also looks like a 2 inch brim, I'm into 2.5-3in brims.
except me. I'm a 6 7/8 :D
but I'm not searching for hats all the time, definitely love a vintage Stetson though, got 2 off Alan and got 1 from Bowen and I love them. I would love the thrill of finding one on my own on ebay or in a vintage shop but I don't think my knowledge base is strong enough...
