Here's another quick one for you:
We start off with an open crown straight from the hatmaker.
Here, you can see him use a hat brush and desk to get that sharp crease. That's not a straight edge on the counter, but the semi-circle his dad built on for this task.
Looking pretty good!
Looking...
He varies the crease and brim according to face shape. Same with crown height, pinch and taper.
Funny, but this is always the reaction when people look in the mirror: big smile and they touch their hat. I see it time and time again.
A final touchup and she's on her way.
Then he goes to work on the brim. I realize I didn't show him putting in the crease, I'll try to find other photos in future posts.
He places a toothpick to find the visual center of the customers' face. People are not symmetrical, so he does it visually. This year, he's moved to using a...
But, that's no fun. Let's show you what a good steam fitting looks like!
First, we steam the hat overall to loosen up the fibers. Andres will set it on the customer's head maybe 2-3 times until it really starts to fit like a glove.
Hi everyone!
I just got back from working the Deerfield Fair in New Hampshire USA. A good friend of mine custom fits cowboy hats, and oh, man is this a lot of fun! I thought I was just selling hats and cowboy boots, but really, this is something much more; you should see the joy as people get a...
Sorry, did not intend to stir up trouble. Just a bit new at the game. Since mine is an open crown, it seems to me I can cross over, but don't know the subtleties.
So how far off is a fedora from a traditional cowboy hat? Hope this hasn't been rehashed a thousand times, but I can't find much. I feel like I'm swimming in a Stetsonian, I can't imagine if I'm wearing a 3"+ brim.
I have to go to Austin for a big party in spring. I hope to avoid being the subject of Lyle Lovett's "That's right, you're not from Texas" song.
I have a grey Stetsonian open crown that has a brim just a tad too big for me but I love it anyway. I was wondering if you think I could put a...
@Rmccamey I have to say, you look wonderful in a bowler. Your side profile, you look like you and that hat were made for each other.
@GHT Reading your posts across the Lounge, your wife sounds like a charming woman and delightful companion. I wish her a speedy recovery and you both good health.
I don't know much, but I'm pretty sure Lock is THE bowler hat. They were built tough and known to be able to protect a man from a sharp rap on the noggin by a walking stick or more. https://www.lockhatters.com/pages/the-coke
@Bouwerij_Jongen, late to respond, but I'm sincerely sorry for the losses of your friends and family. Willamette and Cascade valley are legendary for their hops, of course, so I can't imagine what the scene looks like today. Hope you and your family are safe and healthy in these troubled times.
Big berets often look a bit clumsy, but yours looks quite dashing. I think it's the whole shebang of the structured shoulders of your tweed jacket and the dash of color from the scarf. Nicely done, a real inspiration!
I wore a porkpie tonight with the bad weather. Normally, it's a flatcap or beret.
My son said I look like Walter White (that's a compliment).
My wife said "Nice hat Cepice. <pause> Did you wear it out in public?"
