    Terms Which Have Disappeared

One I just remembered is "good egg." I used that over the New Years' weekend and a friend of mine remarked that she hasn't heard the saying in a long while.

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

They forget that Jesus was one of us. That's the most striking thing I noticed about that particular mindset. You can't logically honour your religious leader without showing respect for his heritage.

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

Certainly!! It's a nice gesture. Our non-Jewish friends do that all the time, nothing at all unacceptable.

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

For me, as a Jew, it becomes a time when some are just outright hostile to my husband and I because we say "Happy Holidays." A lack of respect and a lack of inclusion can be extremely depressing during this time of year. Some people have made us feel as though we're not quite fully American for...

    Chronic Illness

Severe depression (for which I was recently hospitalised,) PTSD due to my own father trying to kill my mother and I, and Asperger syndrome on top of pain from injuries due to a car accident nearly three years ago. My husband has a genetic disorder, BPES, that affects his face and eyes. He bears...

What do you use to shave?

My husband and I get our razors on barter from a friend's mom who works for Schick. I can my sauce or help her out with some of their garden projects, wine making etc (they are old school from Portugal) and we get loads of the things in return.

What's the recipe you use for your corndog batter? I want to make a few

    What's for Dinner?

Homemade bangers that I let settle overnight (I spent a few hours during yesterday's snow stuffing bangers and red hots) and mash.

    The 80s, myth and reality?

That's where I grew up! I'm from Oak Ridge, but we moved to Morgan County in 1989 (I was born in 1982.) WSJK-TV, or more likely WKOP-TV, six of one just a different channel, was the only thing my mother would allow on TV up until I was 8 or 9, barring a few Saturday morning cartoons. I remember...

Changes in Attitude in Marriage & Divorce from the Golden Era to Now.

We can be like that--I used to ask other children in school why they couldn't spell words properly, and I couldn't figure out for the life of me why they were offended when I asked them. I wanted to know why. I only found out a few months ago that other people can't see words in their head as...

What coffee or tea did you drink today?

This morning was the usual instant stuff from Aldi, but yesterday my parents came over, so I brewed Tribal Grounds. It's an enterprise owned by members of my own tribe (I'm enrolled Eastern Band Cherokee) and they make some excellent coffee. I brewed the lighter blend, Sunalei--the name means...

    Suit jacket, fashion suicide?

I buy separates all the time, and I just make sure the particular shade of whichever colour matches by taking the item to be matched along with me. If you don't like to be too matchy, just look to the Ivy League styles--blue blazers and light khakis are a big example.

    Canning

I can pretty much anything I grow. Tomatoes are diced & then canned, as is the sauce I make from them. I'll take a couple of rotisserie chicken carcasses and make broth, which I also can. Soups, stews, you name it--they can all be done successfully.

Vintage Things That Will NOT Disappear In Your Lifetime

I won't use Apple anything because of the fact Apple products don't "play well with others." When I worked in broadcasting, it was common to see PCs because if one failed, there were a couple of backups available immediately, just plug and play. I use a 7 year old Dell laptop my husband had...

Vintage Things That Will NOT Disappear In Your Lifetime

I have one contribution, and I tried to see if anyone else had this one to make, but.... SPAM. It's been elevated to an art in Hawai'i and Guam since it was introduced in WW2.

Changes in Attitude in Marriage & Divorce from the Golden Era to Now.

I have autism as well (Asperger.) Dealing with people like us can be difficult, to say the least. Sometimes you have to do what is best for you, to keep your own sanity and health intact. You did what you could, and sometimes it's just time to move on. I hope things get easier for you...

You Realise Christmas Is Approaching When …

The day after Thanksgiving, when I realise I have to make lists for things to bring/get/do for people and events. We have both Hanukkah at our house and my in-laws, and Christmas at my parents' house, so it's all about the event calendar!

There are pierogi involved? Certainly a suitable match! My husband loves pretty much anything tasty, from latkes to BBQ to clams we dig in the estuary down the street.

Every Time I Toss the Bacon Grease I Feel Guilty

Bacon makes everything better, even bacon itself. The best one near us is Baconfest, a fundraiser held by the metal community for the Connecticut Food Bank. Free bacon until it runs out, admission is $10 each and all the bands chip in as well to donate.
