Yes, I do like the weave also, after trying vintage Dobbs boater and recent Olney’s. Definitely, old Dobbs shows best hand crafted quality, though.

Thank you! I am a kind of new comer to hat lovers, and am trying many types of hat. So far, I found boaters best fit to me ;-)

Under my new boater in the train. This hat is recent Japan made, claiming made by old stock straw material from Italy. Well made, with genuine leather sweat band.
In Japan, once boater was very popular early 20th. We still have several local hat manufacturers keeping boater production for...
Dark blue.
I compared panama version and hemp version at the hatter, and picked hemp because the shape of the crown looked better match to me.

In Japan, boater is called ‘can-can hat’, and was very popular in ancient age, 100 year ago, mainly for kind of formal male hat as same as western world.
‘Can-can’ was from the hard solid high tone sound when we hit the hat with fingernail. You can find this Japan local name also in Wikipedia...
Thanks.
I bought this bowler at the antique shop in Japan recently. It looks rather old one, and was wondering how this hat could have survived thru 90 years keeping this condition.
Really appreciate great materials and professional work of Stetson!
