Field Leathers just posted a story linking to Mark Grether on Instagram. He's a German artisan who makes reproduction leather jackets, and they look very nice.
Crowtree Leathers were a highly regarded makers of motorcycle leathers. They used to be very highly regarded and I believe that they were popular with road racers, or the nutters who ride things like the Isle of Man TT. They were highly regarded on the biker forums in the noughties.
I think...
If you want something that looks a bit like a briefcase, the Frank Clegg English Backpack would work. There are some waxed canvas backpacks from Trakke, Filson, and Fjallraven that might work. Trakke is working on a collaboration with Nigel Cabourn that's due in a few months and looks lovely...
The Carlo Pueblo in R Antico looks like a faded pink when new, but the buffed or polished patch is a lovely brick red. I think that it'd be an interesting option for a jacket, but whether I could convince Greg to use it for my upcoming one...
I'm not sure if Greg is offering alternative colours via the sample pack. From my discussion with Sam, I got the impression that he's ordering a few hides to try.
Then again, if you asked for Prugna (which looks completely awesome), I'm sure that they could tag it to the order.
Incidentally, A. & A. Crack, the supplier whose website I linked to for the Badalassi leathers have some fantastic hides. My favourite is probably the vegetable tanned Horween Bison, which looks as though it's a tea-core, since the back side is brown. They also have wild Elk and Kudu from...
I believe that he's getting in several shades of brown, along with bone, which Sam confirmed is a natural / undyed hide. I didn't ask about other shades of brown.
However, in an Instagram story, Greg mentioned that Badalassi offer sample packs, which contain enough leather to make up one or two...
Indigofera often produce iterations of the Fargo in leather. This is the latest in a rough-out cowhide, via Pancho and Lefty. Other colours are available.
I'm not sure when a shirt becomes a jacket, but I think that this Fargo is on the dividing line.
Field Leathers have posted a cloth prototype of a Peter's Tailor Made jacket to their Instagram Stories.
There are photos of an original on the Freewheelers website. I prefer the prototype because it's cleaner, though I'm sure that Greg could build a stripped down version.
East West cross zip. No idea of the price, but it's listed on Vintage Great Power's Instagram.
They have also just sold this very cool Le Chevron wool cross zip.
If I could make two more suggestions...
First, ask Sam and Greg what they advise. They're both experienced at designing and making jackets. (Sam created the Ladies Cossack for Aero.) And it generally pays to listen to what someone like that says.
Second, if you want to go longer in the body...
@jimmer_5 I've seen a few longer cross-zip jackets or coats with a belt at the waist, but they might not be your thing.
Greg did a really cool collared café racer for a guy called Roman. It's up on his Instagram. You could copy the style and add a few inches to its length.
Butterworth...
@Mrfrown how does the jacket fit through the body? It looks slightly big in the shoulders, but I don't know if that's just your pose!
I'd be tempted to leave the body as is, but I like longer café racers and I think it looks good as is, but shorten the sleeves. I would also see if you could...
