I also picked up some Polo Ralph Lauren P-3 frames. They look to have been made in the late Eighties or early Nineties. They were made in Japan, have some nice filigree detail along the temples, and are plated in white gold.
Hello again, everyone! I wish I visited here more often. But you guys always have me beat with the great vintage finds and knowledge.
I wanted to share some pics of some frames that I picked up not too long ago. These are the "Cameroon" model, from a company called "Article One".
To me...
Here are some Mod-inspired frames from Eyeglassboy. I don't know if these are fedora-worthy...? At what point did men stop wearing fedoras on a regular basis? Sometime in the Sixties, right? Right after Kennedy stopped wearing fedoras. Yeah, it was Kennedy, and then the hippies and their...
"Tampico" frames from Eyeglassboy. These frames were worn by Mexican bandleader Juan Garcia Esquivel, rock legend Buddy Holly, and the late, great Roy Orbison.
These frames are one thick chunk of plastic.
Here is a pair of Anglo American 221 EVO sunglasses. I like the green plastic; it seems like something you'd find in a dime store in the mid Thirties.
The hinge is heat-sunk rather than staked, which for the amount of money that I paid for the frames makes them overpriced. But a heat-sunk...
These sunglasses are like a Nineties version of the Thirties. These are a Fossil model called the "One Fifty". I look at them now and say to myself, "Wow, these really are Nineties. I can't believe I actually wore these." But I like some of the details, like the coin-edge detail along the...
Here are some Forties reproductions (Forties inspired?) from Ralph Lauren. These are Ralph Lauren Purple Label model PL 9756. They were in production for roughly five years or so. They're a little narrow for my face, but I think that adds to the overall vintage-ness.
I bought these as part...
Here is another pair of sunglasses from See Eyewear. If I remember correctly, the guy at the store said they were copied from a pair of 1950's glasses purchased in Spain. But I think the design is actually French in origin.
I posted something in the "Vintage Sunglasses" thread, but I think I should have posted it here instead. Apologies for re-posting!
These are pics of some sunglasses I bought at See Eyewear. I really like the orange-y amber color of the thick plastic.
The product description listed these as...
I have a related question regarding sunglass frames. Were colored plastics, like white or butterscotch, more for women than men? Or were these colors considered unisex?
Generally speaking, I've always bought frames that matched my hair color, i.e. either tortoise or black. But I think with...
The Spoiler,
You're thinking of that old bottle green color. Most optical labs can do this, provided you have a color sample for them to match to the lens color. Where do you get such a sample? There are a few ways. One way is to ask your optician if he has samples for you to pick and...
It would have been more interesting if...
...the film focused more on the decline of the freewheeling bankrobbing days that made Dillinger famous, and Dillinger's inability to come to terms with the rise of a new era, not just in organized crime, but also law enforcement. Surely this ran...
JEANS ARE LIKE WEARING A JOURNAL....
...of your life. At least, the pairs you buy raw and wear in yourself. In that sense, I don't see jeans going anywhere. They represent the American personality. All those wear marks, holes, cat's whiskers, etc, unapologetically reflect and convey...
There are more reissue clocks at...
...www.alarmclocksonline. Westclox reissued several clocks as battery-powered quartz alarm clocks:
*a 1931 Big Ben, in black or silver
*a 1934 Athens Dura (this one's heavy. You could kill a spouse with it. Not that I'm implying, er, uh, you know...
Let's see, vintage and not-so-vintage, on my desk, from top to bottom:
*1940's bronze-colored gooseneck lamp with iron base. The base is teardrop-shaped with lots of "speed lines" and a well for paper clips.
*various vintage postcards and packaging, including a vintage-style (but not...
The book "Populuxe" by Thomas Hine was just reprinted. It covers 1954 to 1964; aesthetics, culture, music, cars, etc. Neat book. Highly recommended!!
The author also published a companion piece about the Seventies, specifically about the children growing up in the time of "Populuxe"...

I'm not a dentist, but...
...my frames are from 1960's-era dental supply company. The brand is "Swan".
I bought them at Level Optical in downtown Chicago. They're larger and more angular than Shurons but just as durable.
Anyway, Level Optical always has a stash of vintage frames on...
