You're welcome, glad you found the review helpful!
No I just leave the gaps - they're very helpful for ventilation actually, especially with a lined hat.
Yes getting the sizing right is really important - if in doubt go up a size, even if you are right on a size go up to the next one. And...
Ok here's how I've come to this conclusion - take a look at these two pictures and note the shape created by the sweatband:
Bogart:
Stylemaster:
The teardrop crown of the stylemaster (at least in my examples) creates an oval that is wider and shorter than the Bogart. I know this is true...
You're welcome Eric, it's a nice lid! You can also consider the Stylemaster as others have said, it will be a better fit IMO if your head is oval. Long ovals fit the Bogart better.
Bruno
Haha yes there's a big difference between mm and cm!
I suspect all of these sources are correct - it's just how you measure the crown. As I said in my review, if you measure the height of the crown externally you get 12cm to the highest point on the crown which is the side of the hat...
Greetings everyone! Thought I'd post a review of my birthday hat for this year, the Akubra RAP. This is Akubra's take on the black pork pie:
Hat has a 49mm brim with bound edge and a 100mm crown. Ribbon band is the standard Akubra type, 32mm. The bow is nicely tacked in all four corners to...
I have a stylemaster in Acorn fawn which looks very much like the hat in the picture above, right down to the colour:
Just replace the band with a contrasting ribbon and flatten the front a bit.
Yes the stylemaster has some taper but not as much as the bogart. Unless you're a real purist I...
I have a 20 year old Cattleman that came with a combination braided leather hatband/chin strap - what I did was wind the chinstrap around the crown and tie a bow in front. Not sure if this achieves the look you are going for but it does get the chin strap out of the way:
You're welcome, glad the post was helpful. The carbon grey is about as versatile as you can get as long as you don't mind having a hat that blends in to an outfit rather than standing out if you know what I mean.
You understand correctly :D The pictures above were actually taken after said rainstorm and as you can see the hat is still in like-new condition. I probably wore the hat about six times before I decided I didn't like the fit. Hats by the hundred have a great return policy - they'll take any...
I've placed four orders with them this year - every single one was fulfilled perfectly: no delay, items all correct and all packed and shipped very nicely. They really use common sense when packing - for example on my most recent order I ordered a hat jack as well as a Stylemaster: the hat jack...
A couple of pictures of my 17 year-old Akubra Cattleman. Apart from the front of the crease this hat shows almost no wear - a testimony to how well they were and are made.
Back when it was new, in them bad old days ;)
This is an update to the original review posted on the 5th of August 2016. It includes all the original text and fixes the broken image link issues that the original post had.
The Akubra Zephyr in Fawn:
I purchased this hat as an alternative to my 15 year old Panama which was...
Akubra website has been updated with the actual colours shown: http://www.akubra.com.au/shop/new-releases/index
Going by the description this hat has the same construction as the traveller and international models ie softer pliofelt, buckram as opposed to leather sweatband and fully...
Thanks for the reply! I have in fact noticed a very slight degree of shrinkage over the six months I have owned this hat. This may be due to the climate I live in, and also because I don't wear the hat every day - I find that if I don't wear it for a week or more it feels a little bit small when...
