I have a splendid vintage coffee percolator/jug, however there seems to be no maker’s stamp. I want to restore it but don’t know whether the Bottom water reservoir unscrews? Ominously, there is a rattling sound coming from the reservoir and I’ve managed to shake several small pieces of what...
Do you long to switch to vaping but only in real style? A real pipe... with no giveaway button to press... just a vintage pipe and sip and vape? Not possible? Oh yes it is!
I had the same problem, puffing at some hefty piece of plastic/ metal plumbing didn’t fit well with my Borsalino fedora...
Oh YES GHT! An MG YA sedan if I’m not mistaken? With suicide front doors and the right wheels too - the sedans don’t look right with wire wheels.
What an ensemble, magnifique! My mid-life crisis was one of the very few genuine, original MGB GT V8 missiles. It was a ghastly bile yellow but went...
I’m a true vintage Borsalino man, for me there’s little to compare with a 1930 -1950’s Borsalino fedora. However, I needed an elegant summer hat, but found almost everything tediously ordinary and either wildly cheap or wildly expensive. I take a very large size making true vintage really rare...
very late commer to this most intreagueing thread. I've just aquired and posted this hat on my usual haunt - a Borsalino thread. I was told there that Tesi probably made it, which seems very likely.
I think I might try and reblock that sharp bash as I fear that otherwise it may crack...
My Borsalino
Thank you Tonio, it does look very likely that Tesi made it doesn't it. I've seen this Tesi made for Bencraft that looks very, very like my straw Borsalino
This is the Tesi Bencraft. I'm very tempted to ease out the sharp bash on mine as it can't be any good for the bacü straw...
I thought so Alan - it makes sense on a straw hat really. But I wonder why I can find no trace of this type of fine Borsalino Bakü - they do make a much heavier weave bakü fedora, but I find it very ordinary, not much of a Borsa' work of art.
Thank you moontheloon, but it's "spot the error" time... It's a cloth swearband! Silly me.
Do you think that this straw Borsalino is their summer version of a Brooklyn Chabad kneitsch? The Crown Heights Chabad-Lubavitch badge of office? It might be at that, but why not? I may be a Scottish...
Thank you RJR, do tell me, what do you use to treat a sweatband? I have various wonderful saddlemakers' leather potions. I suppose it's a matter of how dry and encrusted a band is? Saddlesoap is the old fallback I guess. I was more concerned about over creased straw and cracking.
In the...
What have I done? Will my marriage survive it? Have I gone mad? OK how mad?
I've just dived in and made a "buy it now" purchase on eBay.
Yes I probably did pay too much
But I like the look of it, I've had a close inspection and as far as I can see I don't think that the straw has...
Yes, with luck, if you very carefully fold down the sweatband on a Borsalino you often find the hand written or stamped date that the hat was finished. Good luck! Be very careful if the sweatband is dry and brittle.
Ah but were you a Surgeon? Or a Financial Trader maybe - both are experts at stitching people up. Sorry Eric, in fact that's very useful advice. Maybe Kevin from Pork Pie Hatters could make a video. I find his offerings on YouTube very useful, he takes his time and knows what he's doing. Your...
That's interesting Rick those conical hills and mountains hold a special sort of magic. I used to live near hear:
"Tap O' Noth in Aberdeenshire. The ancient fort on top is ringed by a vitrified stone wall, fired to the extent that the stones actually welded themselves together! Standing...
That replacement hatband looks "the business" Eric. They are more complicated to fit well than one thinks due to the conical nature of the dome.
The sharksgill hatband on my stolen Borsalino was really nice, but a bit stained so I turned it over and reversed the pleats, it was a great...
