If my CD has shrunk and I use a hat stretcher to regain the half size or so that I seem to have lost, will it shrink again, or is like a shirt--it shrinks once and then that's pretty much it?
Yes, that's the one, or very close to it. The one at Beans is only available in a S,M or L, and the large was a little tightish on me. I thought the quality of the hat was very nice though. The retail price at Beans is $149.
Was at Beans yesterday and tried on a Stetson Panama hat that I found in the outlet center.
I'm new to hats and have never had a panama hat on my head before. After putting this on I instantly understood that value of a good panama hat. Still, I refrained from buying as this particular hat...
The hat that I have does not mold like the one in the video. That one seems to form like clay and the felt in the indy hat holds the bash well.
I wondered if the dimensional brim on the Federation makes creating the downswept brim a bit easier vs the Campdraft. The brim on my SBCD just wants...
Heating up some distilled water. Going to give it another try.
BTW, there's no problem in creating the form that I want with steam--it just doesn't stick after a day or two. The brim just wants to revert to the upward snap that it originally came with.
By way of comparison, I was at LLBean last week and tried on a Stetson Moose River. I liked it alot, but felt the brim was a too stingy. In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't get the Moose River and went for the Campdraft instead--I like this one much more and it's only a little more than half the...
SBCD, first hat, first bash
I'm not totally content with the bash. I was trying for more pronounced dents in the crown and a brim that had more of a downward turn, but I can't seem to achieve these, even with steam. The brim keeps reverting to a flat look. As I continue to shape the front of...
Just received my first hat--a Silver Belly Campdraft. What a great hat! This being my first hat, I was going to go for something a little smaller, like the Stylemaster. I'm glad I went with the SBCD.
Tried bashing, and am happy with the diamond crease, but can't get the sides to pinch very...
I'm in the market for my first hat and was set on ordering a Campdraft. I was passing through Freeport today and thought I'd first stop in to look at their Moose River hats. The Moose River seems like a nice hat, but the brim seems a little narrow (it's listed as 2-3/8). Then again, I'd have no...
Many of the JJ Hats seem to have smaller brims and crowns than the CD and Fed IV.
What is it about the Akubras that you prefer--the dimensions, durability, value, the more utilitarian flare?
JJ Hat has a great variety of nice looking, fur felt hats made in Spain. Who's the manufacturer of these hats and how do they compare to the Akubras?
Thanks!
Looks much like an Akubra Stylemaster or Sydney/Fedora to me. The Stylemaster comes creased while the Sydney/Fedora comes with an open crown and can be shaped to your liking. The fedora from JJ Hats (link above) looks very nice. The Akubras are a bit more reasonable but still known to be a very...
