Got it. Haha. Yeah I remember when hats made up more of the listings. It looks like Tapatalk isn't used here anymore either. Happy to see that some of the same great contributors are still around. Thank you!
Hi BobHufford, looks like I'm a bit late for this batch, hope you did well! I recognize your name, maybe you can help answer a question for me? It's been about a year since I'd last visiting the lounge, has the hat forums always been mixed with all the other clothes and stuff? I feel like I...
Thank you Brent! That's pretty close, I may even drive. Still wishing I'd seen your post the other day about that Silverbelly you'd listed on EBAY, but makes me happy to see you got a good price for it!! Thank you again! :) D
Hi Guys, I know it's been asked many times, and I have tried using the search button but no luck. I need to get some leather sweatbands replaced on a few of my very old vintage fedoras. The people I knew locally aren't around anymore, and even though I live in a big city (San Diego), the couple...
Thanks belfastboy, I think I'm hearing a trend here, guess many have the reverse problem. I'm feeling a bit better now :) well let me know if you've got any Stratoliner 7-3/8 in Silverbelly that you're ready to give up on! Cheers!
I've had a short and sharp looking business haircut for 35yrs but the pandemic changed all that! Now I have rock star curly hair hanging down to my shoulders, which I'm having lots of fun with, BUT my hat size moved up from 7-1/4 and 58cm to a solid 7-3/8 and 59cm, and it's a real bummer because...
Well snap, had I seen this earlier I would have been all over it! I'm actually here looking for a 7-3/8 silverbelly open road/stratoliner to gift my wife for her birthday. Good luck on your auction deadlyhandsome! Cheers, D
Anyone have recommendations for where I should go (I live in San Diego btw) to get a few vintage sweatbands replaced? These would be for vintage quality fedora/western type hats whose sweat has deteriorated to the point where I just have to either do this or be content with sometimes wearing...
I just picked this one up off the bay and thought it might make for a good beater. Moth nibbles, some tracks under the brim, looks like the wind strap had been cut, possible soiling, but the color and the condition of the leather caught my eye. Sure enough, it arrived as a total beater, but...
I would say to just wear and enjoy the hat in it's present condition. No vigorous cleaning job or steam on the sweat! If the sweat starts to break away at the stitches, use Fabri Tac to carefully glue it back in place. If it starts cracking around the top edges or anywhere else, carefully...
I noticed that often these old Boss Raw Edge hats also have "The Fray" on the sweat but this one does not. As I understand from reading some of the older posts that "The Fray" had to do with a process used when making the sweat band and named after the Stetson officer who came up with the idea...
Oh yeah and then there's this....the view from the dental mirror...looks like a reorder number? I chickened out on peeling the sweat back any further but I could see the edges of the red/orange tag with what looked like maybe some ink writing on it...I think the rest will have to remain a...
Update: I found that I had some old Fibri-Tac glue from several years ago that had been unopened until now. The problem was that the glue had become thick and not of the consistency I would have expected so I called the manufacturer who said that the bottle should be almost full which it wasn't...
It's not exactly what you're asking for but I've got a friend who looks pretty cool in his Sunbody Hats Guatemala palm bowler. It's not light and airy like some palm or straw hats, but it does seem pretty durable like a bowler should be

Ha! Thanks and thumbs up to ya man! Yeah, I'm tempted to leave the dust where it lay but I probably won't, and yes, I would love to take a peek under the sweatband but that curiosity has gotten me into trouble before and I'm not gonna risk it! I guess it doesn't really matter anyway... ;)
Thanks alanfgag for the Fabri-Tac suggestion. My initial thoughts are that removing the ribbon to restitch may be more trouble than it's worth and I don't know anyone local I can trust to do the job. The stitches are still holding the sweat in but loosely enough that the integrity has been...
Ok, this just happened...
I've been huntin for years and it's finally mine! I found it on ebay, an old, I'm guessing 1920's, Stetson wide brim thin ribbon pencil curl black hat. It looks like the felt would be stiff but its not, the felt feels light and very soft, but also very malleable. It...
