The STETSON WAY, Advertising and ephemera of the Golden Era

I love these old ads. RickP will especially cringe, but my wife does a lot of painting and collage art, so she cuts up a lot of old magazines. 'However', she is under strict orders to leave Stetson and any other hat advertising untouched. :-)

    Post New Hats Here!

The look of the felt in this third one reminds me a little of the Stetson Ultralight Stratoliner, that I am eyeing for Fall. I like the look. They usually don't have it in my size though.

    Post New Hats Here!

I haven't gotten a new hat in a long long time, but I've been wanting a knock around straw, so I got this 'Unwind Hat' for the rest of summer. I haven't ever seen SundayAfternoons hats mentioned around here before. It seems they have holiday weekend sales, so I got this steal for $40.00...

Today? Around these parts? My Chicago Bears cap, no question. Sorry, couldn't resist. Some great hats here.

    Fraying on a new hat

I will chime in with the same issue in a couple of spots on my PHD hat. I've had mine for several years.. Is there anything to snipping spots like that and using a dab of super glue to stop it in its tracks or is that a bad option?

Yes, great finds. Looks good on the hat. I have to start keeping my eyes peeled for stuff like this when we're out 'poking around'.

I would consider mine soft and supple, especially the brim. Of course I expect some level of stiffness to hold the shape of the crown, but I wouldn't consider it excessive at all. BTW, I would never consider it a roll up either.

You're right! I would consider the hat excellent if it had a good ribbon and sweat. Hmmm, somehow I would rather have the glue than staples, although staples might be easier to remove without causing damage.

Yes, I was really disappointed when I saw they used glue on the PHD hat I bought a few years ago. I would say that and the sweatband are the two knocks on it.

    In praise of newer Stetson

The one thing I like most about Stetson is the Stratoliner shape. It's my favorite style. That said, my first and only (so far) Stetson experience is mixed. The one I got stuck with (my fault) had a couple of flaws in the felt. One I fixed on the brim (some squiggly looking indentations) and the...

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

The only comments I've had lately are from my dad saying, "I don't like the brim up." LOL!

I actually planned to take the liner out and I never got around to it. Maybe this season I will. Thanks for the reminder.

To be honest, it crossed my mind that you probably did that. :-) Good call!

Good to know! I will say this. The liner was 'much' neater than the one that came on my recent Stetson Stratoliner.

My hat is enroute to me. I bought a super fino with a 3 1/3" brim. Looking forward to it. I got a super fino Havana from PHD some time back. Very happy with it. I'd say the sweat left a tiny bit to be desired, but it's OK. It's a really nice weave and a beautifully shaped hat.

You can go on Instagram and search for Stetson Stratoliner and there are a lot of brims up pics.

My problem is, every time I do that, I end up needing evetrything in the 13th month. We've gone through some of that recently. It's definitely tough.
