You know, I've lived here over a year and haven't been there yet... There are so many REALLY good local places, I just haven't gotten 'round to it. I'm down, though:)
Unfortunately, I'm getting ready to leave town on a six-monther, myself. Hoping (fervently) for a chance to get to Marx Bros Cafe with the wifey before I leave next week.
Yeah, just got back from Tyndall, FL myself; no chance for shopping though. Last hat I bought was my vintage Resistol from Sergei's estate over on COW. Love that hat, though... it's a beauty. Forgive the face-rug... had some leave to burn up:)
Well, been searching quite a bit only to find squat. As near as I can tell, the closest reputable to hatters are John Penman and Art Fawcett, and they're both way down in Oregon. Both Art's work is unprecedented, and John's not far behind, I just wish there was a local shop I could walk into on...
My apologies then, sir, it wasn't meant to be an attack. Marc was sharing a prized gift with all of us... which seemed to morph into "Why would you want that?", "Why would you pay that much?", "Mine does it better!", and "Blah blah blah..." useless (and insulting in John's case) banter that...
How much do you think Penman Hats is shelling out in consultation fees these days? Do you suppose the checks are already in the mail?
I'll say no more, because then it REALLY will be:

I submit for your review...
Since the diamond AB I first entered didn't last very long, I've decided to submit my latest acquisition. This is my Resistol OR variant that I posted a week or two ago...

Kreissaege, get in touch with Jim at JW Hats. www.jwhats.com I have spoken with him at length, and he will certainly accommodate you, even if it's only one sweatband. Also, he is a good source for ribbon.

Thank you all for your kind compliments!!!
Senior, I was at Ellsworth in South Dakota for 7 years before moving up here. Got here in the first half of April, and we've all really fallen in love with the place! As for the ALCAN driving in, it was amazing, even during the break-up/thaw season...
Thank you, gents!
Can anyone give me any ideas of when this hat was made? Here are some better pics of the liner, the only label, and suede-side of the sweat. There was no original price tag or model/info sticker.
As you can see, the sweat leather is absolutely pristine, and it's still...
Old Resistol; First True Vintage Buy!
Here's my newly acquired Resistol, from a former COW member. Sadly he passed away, and his collection was made available to members as a legacy sort of thing. Not sure the model...
More pics in a new thread...
