My wife has a sweater drying rack I considered using after washing it. It has a small fan that drys at a cool temp in order to prevent delicate fabrics from shrinking, so I thought it would be fine for the jacket.
Also, I was going to check in with Gail over in the Schott forums for some information about the jacket, but I saw she mentioned she was on vacation at the moment so I didn't want to bother her (and she said she doesn't have access to her old catalogs). I'll try and see if she knows anything...
If the jacket felt delicate at all, I really wouldn't consider the washing machine method. I have another lambskin jacket that I doubt would survive a trip through the machine, but the Schott feels very sturdy. I'll have to take a look at armscye's method closer, but my plan was to use the...
I was fully prepared to do your method, like I said I even bought the Woolite! But then I researched myself in a circle and read too many posts about warped linings and shrinking sleeves. You seem pretty steadfast about your method, though, and I think that I am going to try it. I will search...
Yeah, that was my first thought. As you can see in the pictures there's not much in the way of a model number or any other information about the jacket itself on the tags. On the opposite of the care tag there's the original owners name and address handwritten, and on the size tag it looks...
The liner really doesn't have a smell, which is good. When I was letting the jacket air-out I had dryer sheets stuffed in the pockets and armholes, which I think neutralized any liner smell. The smell is more of the actual leather, which is why I think a good cleaning/conditioning might get...
I don't think the smell is mold. I can only describe it as "musty." My dad is a vintage car collector, and it reminds me of the smell of some of the interiors of those cars. I've had some trouble finding a specialized leather cleaning place in my area. There's plenty of dry cleaners, but as...
Thanks, if I had to guess I would say cowhide, based on my research. But if anyone here might know better, I'm all ears. It does have nice depth of color, which I'm not sure comes through entirely in the pictures.
I'd been looking for a brown cafe racer style Schott for some time, and finally found a used one that fit me perfectly. (Not sure why the pictures aren't right side up, sorry about that.)
I'd guess it's 20 or so years old. I love the patina and look of it, but there's a musty...
I think you might be referring to Cole's Aero A-2:

There are several pics throughout that thread. Personally I think it's fantastic, the depth of color is what made me look at...
My concern was never authenticity, so you may be right about that. But saying "A-2" is easier than "collared bomber jacket with two large front pockets."
TOJ made the A-2 with FQHH in the past, which is why I was confused as to why they don't offer it anymore. You can see a some pictures here:

and here...
TOJ is still taking MTM orders, but they have said that they will stop at some point in the future. This has caused a significant increase in orders, which have exponentially added to the already extensive wait list (I think its almost 50 weeks at this point).
They cover most of the...
I've decided to let this G&B A-2 go for something in a lighter color. I'm normally a slim large (XL in some designers), and this jacket fit me like a glove. I see many say that the cut of the G&B's are generous, so I sized down but went with tall to ensure the lengths were still appropriate...
I have a listing for a pair of Wolverine 1000 Mile boots in brown chromexcel on ebay. Current bid is $150. They are size 12 EEE, although they fit relatively narrow still. The only reason I'm selling is that I found a pair of Alden plain toe chromexcel boots on their Trubalance last, which...
