A couple of years ago I had a crappy experience getting a nice hat from Equador. I found out that one of our local hatters used to finish hats for Brent Black. I want to purchase a couple of unfinished hats and have them blocked and finished here. Does anyone have any experience with unfinished...
I've got 4 Open Roads now. I wear them quite a bit. I got my 21 year old son an well worn vintage O-R copy at an antique store in Austin. He is in school in NY NY. He says every time he wears it someone gives him some snide comment or a Yee-Ha. He gets a kick out of it... I have been in some hat...
I have discussed this with my Hatter. He is ready to go. I'm going to wait a couple of months. Christmas and a pair of college tuitions have curtailed my toy budget... I'll try Panama Bob next time, everyone here seems to speak highly of him.
End of this episode...
I took the hat to Johnnys Custom Hatters (who used to finish hats for Brent Black). He stretched it for me. I've worn it twice and it has not shrunk back to the smaller size (as is my usual experience with stretching). He straightened out the wavy brim and made it look...
It came
:eusa_doh: I got the hat New Years Eve. It's evenly and finely woven. Hard to count the WPI even with trifocals and a magnifying glass. No lining this time and a thicker but unembossed sweatband. The hatbands do not look like they spent their life on a dirt floor like the first...
Finally Shipped
On 11-19 the finished hat was due in to PHD ready to ship next week. When I didn't hear anything I wrote again... Apparently Casey finishes the hats... That took a while... I got an e-mail that it had shipped with the comment "I hope you like this one". Somehow it sounds like...
I walked by a womens resale shop on So Co. I can't remember the name. There was a sign in the window. Visit our new mens resale shop on S 1st... Never made it though...
Thanks.
I checked out Uncomon Objects. I've been in there many times, just never paid attention to the name... All of the hats I liked, that fit, were pricey... I bought my son an old Resistol Open Road type hat. He said he needed a hat to take to Tokyo next semester... I was really sad to hear...
While in College in San Antonio I bought a few shirts that came with 2 collars. I think I got them at Frost Brothers. Whoever it was they only had them one season. If you bought a shirt with patterned fabric you got a matching collar and a white one. If you bought white you got different white...
Uncle Verne
Have you ever been in the Boot/Western Store a couple blocks south of Vespayo (sp?) on South Congress. I've never bought any footwear in Mexico that didn't fall apart way too soon or stink, but they have some way cool retro looking, drugstore cowboy boots, hecho in Mexico. I can't...
I'll check this thread before I hit S Congress Friday. If there are any other suggestions on hats as well as food, fun etc. go ahead & post. Saturday I think I'm playing one of the Barton Creek Courses with the kids and will not have much time.
I guess bringing my family there will help...
The tie pictured at the beginning is my least Fave... I forgot to pack any ties for our Thanksgiving trip to see my Daughter in DC last year. Those of you with kids know that any kid visit, home or away, invariably results in a beggathon and ultimately in a shopping trip.... Of course when you...
I occasionally use the Four In Hand (FIH). It really looks great with the right tie... So many are just a hair thick or wide in the section where the knot is to look right IMO. I guess one might experiment with each new tie to see which knot looks best. but usually when you are putting on your...
Thanks!
I'm heading out in the morning, I'll check it out. I've been several resale shops on S Congress but never paid much attention to the names... The kids always want to eat @ Guerras, The wife @ Vespayo (sp?). so we end up wandering around that area. Lots of fun shops... We also have to...
I used to try to make the four in hand more symmetrical,,, as you wear them they tend to kind of shoot your tie farther & farther to the side... I was always checking & adjusting. Drove me nuts. I guess I need symmetry. I'm a double windsdor guy. I always know my tie is pointing straight down...
