A few things I thought I'd share.
I picked up a pair of the Iron Heart/Wesco 1930's Engineers. One photo below and many more here.
I put up a short review of them over here.
Simon James Cathcart was/is answering questions about his line of shoes here. I've seen questions about what model on...
I like Role Club and Mr. Freedom quite a bit. But I'm really jonesing for the Santa Rosa either regular or flat toe. I talked to Zip a week ago about them. He wasn't sure that they'd fit right with my large calves. I was going to touch base with him again with some measurements to see if the...
I have a pair in black. The picture on the right is far more accurate.
Here is an album of pics I took after receiving them.
You can see that the shaft of one of these was really beat up. Because I got these for just over $200 (MyHabit has since raised the price...), I kept them. The shafts...
I've never had Red Wing fit me correctly and have had some kind of gripe with every pair of Chippewa I've owned. Also, with Red Wing, I always figure I can spend a little more and get something I'll like a lot better. With the SJC, it's actually cheaper. And I've liked every Northampton-made...
That's where I'm leaning. A snug fit is good with pull on boots and all, but engineers are a little more forgiving with the strap. And if the volume is high enough, a superfeet green insert would make these killer.
Just measured my 10EE Lucchese ropers and 9.5E WWII Impressions boondockers as well. They're ~29cm in length. A bit large on me, but the latter especially is perfect with a superfeet green insert.
White's SD, Nicks, and Frye Artisinal engineers at 9.5 all measured 28cm. Widths varied but were a bit wider than on the size chart above.
Part of me thinks I should amend my order and go down to the 8. But I can always adjust with an insole if the 9 is too big. Not sure what to do.
Thanks for that measurement chart, belopsky. I'm a 9.5E/EEE and went with the 9UK. Need to measure some of my boots' insoles to see whether or not I should switch to 8.
