What is the Forum's thoughts on appliques for the outside of hats? These would be made out of materials never seen before--beautiful colors available that glow!!!
A little late in replying ; but here goes. The Borsalino sample you are using as an example was FOIL STAMPED. Stamping is much different than sublimation which I will discuss later. Most STAMPING is done on a "clam shell" press. You can get an idea of this concept by placing your hands together...

There are now many manufacturers using cloth sweat bands made out of high performance fabrics that are both comfortable and actually in some cases wick away moisture.

As one of the members stated, most commercial linings are glued in behind the sweat.
NES has continued the 80 year old tradition of Annex and Dannex Manufacturing in the making hat linings.

Most liners today are made from a synthetic--acetate. It resembles rayon.In years past, rayon and silk were used also.
The plastic in the top of the lining was there to protect hair oils and hair creams from seeping...
