    Akubra Overload

OK finished for the moment. Finalised the band now it's first day out tomorrow! Not 100% sure I should have gone for the two joins in the band, maybe I should have stuck with the one... But then it was quite plain - grass is always greener I guess looks like I'll have to retake this one...

    Akubra Woomera

yeah that's amazing HJ well done! It really is perfect. And the brim has come out very very good, a vast improvement on the original. Even the thin ribbon looks nice now! It will look even better with the new band.... Might try your method before I try an iron then

    Western, anyone?

just dug up some photos of my first sombrero. Didn't do much with the brim, but I pulled the band off, turned it inside out and hit it with dark tan shoe polish...

    Western, anyone?

Thanks Michael! Yeah I basically got this hat for the curl, and the open crown and decent brim size... I checked those Frays out, thanks for the heads up there are some nice ones in there for sure. Put them into the bank... I have to admit that the Josey Wales hat was an influence in my choice -...

    Akubra Overload

You know you do... Thanks! But I can't claim too much credit - Akubra did the hard bit! Once I'd pulled the sides down the front and rear half wanted to keep curling so I just helped them along with some steam and curled by hand. Might still neaten it up with some rope though

    Akubra Woomera

This is sounding really nice, how did you flatten the brim - by hand or an iron? Would love pics of it with a flat brim... Very nice band too, I'm sure you'll find another like it with a bit of looking...

    Western, anyone?

My latest "western" or work hat - Akubra Sombrero, a bit of a WIP at the moment. Out of the box it doesn't do much for me. So I pulled the sides down, gave the front more curl and pulled the band off. The glue slowly peels off with a finger nail but I'll put a 3/4" leather band over it so I...

    Akubra Overload

ok so here's my latest akubra - a sombrero. I got it off nugar trading for AU$115 but that was after a fight due to a previous order. I had to bully him into keeping his word and I can safely say he is bordering on being a crook and at the least is a very difficult, lying and forgetful person. I...

    Akubra Woomera

OK finally got a pick of my new one in its current state. Actually this was taken a bit before I went away, it's more dirty now. Problem with the dark colours is they show the dirt bad. Mid colours are best for dirt... Pretty happy with the bash, still needing to tame the brim. Haven't brought...

    Akubra Woomera

Yep just got back, 44hrs of travel time all up to get home... Done a quick search and can't find any pics of Spencer's sombrero. I've been trawling this thread - http://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/brim-curls-kettles-pencill-etc.52149/ for some bash inspiration. I thought I was going to go a...

    Akubra Woomera

Wow HJ - that looks really pro, flawless in fact... It must be a good looking hat overall now - any shots of it worn? What have you done to the brim? Hey I wouldn't feel guilty at all - it looks great! Doesn't matter if it was easy to do, it's all about the end result. Sometimes the best...

    Akubra Kentucky Rancher

akubra recently had a shake up. Dropped a heap of nice hats and introduced a small number of new ones (like the KR). I think it also coincided with bringing in all rabbit pelts from overseas and a huge price jump :(

    Akubra Woomera

I was going to post this on the akubra overload thread but this is even more relevant... I've just found some old pics of my first woomera. I'd put the crown as fairly tall, but don't have much bench mark. Also my now retired And new Let us know how you go flattening the brim - it's a hot...

    Akubra: Bogart v. Stylemaster

You can always alter the stylemaster too, although I agree the crown's potential is limited by its height. I love mine though - disclaimer, this is 5 years ago ;)

    Akubra Overload

Yeah I've had both and in the heat I don't find much difference. I don't like the look of holes though... Felt hats are hotter than straw/hemp for sure but they are far better value for money as they last far far longer. As I said in the western thread, that (nicer than the others) hat on the...

    Western, anyone?

So Both suit you well - I agree I'm sometimes tempted to leave them open. They look good whatever! Well almost... Also the brim is for sure as you say, needs a bit of taming. Still need to take an iron to mine. Yeah that brim has turned out well. Although those turn ups are tending slightly...

    Akubra Overload

Sorry on the absence guys, still overseas and was frantic leading up to it... I actually thought I'd posted a recent photo but it seems I was mistaken. And I don't have my phone so can't now. But it's final shape is pretty similar to the earlier ones pictured - I just pinched the sides of the...

    Akubra Overload

Thanks guys, love it but will keep tweeking for a while probably! Thanks for the chart Michael, mine sort of looked a bit like a Canadian. As I'm shooting for something more like an akubra border (bash-wise) it made me realise what was wrong. I've raised the sides in the middle a little and...
