Here is my project car. 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
This picture is about 9 years old. Currently it's up on blocks in my garage starved for attention as I very slowly work on replacing the floor pans and converting the car to a 5-speed manual.
Thanks for the pictures @TooManyHatsOnlyOneHead !! They were really helpful. I just told Carrie I want to go with the standard CXL. I might as well not cheat myself out of the full experience, and since over time it'll look more like the tumbled, my wife will like it the more I wear it...
I'm going for a 1930s Half Belt. I was sent a Sunburst in Tobacco Badalassi as a fit jacket, since they share the same pattern. I looked through all of the brown samples that were sent with it, but the CXL were the two that stood out.
It's going to be a Fall/Winter/Spring jacket for me. I run too hot to be able to wear anything of weight during the Summer months. I'm going with cotton drill lining to keep it on the relatively lighter side. When you say you were wearing it 4-5 hours a day, is that daily wear? I'll admit I'm...
I'm in the process of getting my first Aero (via Carrie at TB). I have the fit jacket, I have the samples. My wife likes the tumbled CXL FQHH. I like the non-tumbled variant best... at least based on the samples.
I'm assuming that break in would be easier with the tumbled, since it comes a...
I'm in a similar position as OP and David r. I have started the custom order process with Carrie for a 30s half belt. She didn't have one in stock in my size for the fit jacket, but has a Sunburst inbound from Scotland in about a week and a half that she's going to send me to try on. That...
Thanks @ton312 !! Those look fantastic. Your build looks similar to my own which reinforces my preference for this style. It's also interesting to see the different backs that you have on yours. Do you have a favorite configuration?
@torfjord that jacket is beautiful!! That brown is everything I'd hoped it would look like. Was yours steer or FQHH? I'm guessing steer, but my eye is pretty inexperienced.
Hi all! I'm preparing to pull the trigger on an Aero 30s Half Belt. I'm debating between Cordovan or Brown CXL. If you happen to have one of these in either of those colors, could you please share some pics? Thanks!
I'm hoping for "fitted" but I also want to be able to move. I am a weightlifter, so have the typical broad shoulders and large upper arms, but my lower half isn't small either and I think too much taper could make my rear look even bigger.
I'm in communication with Carrie at Thurston Bros. I said in my initial email I liked the Highwayman and 30s Half Belt and described my build a little. She suggested of those two the 30s would be more suited to my build. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but talks are moving forward.
Well gents... to give the short of it first, I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on an Aero.
The long of it is this...
I ordered the Taylor Stitch jacket. I waited over 2 months for production and shipping. When it arrived I tried it on and found it too tight for my liking, particularly...
This saddens me. I like driving manual transmission cars. I have a Chevy Cruze Eco right now that's a 6-speed manual. I was keeping the Accord in the back of my mind as an option in case I need to get a larger car down the road. Guess that's out now.
My preference would be to find a Chevy SS...
@El Marro thanks for pointing that out. Boxy might not be a deal-breaker. Two years of weightlifting have me pretty broad up top.
@BassandB3 Thank you! Your post is most helpful! I'm glad to hear that the TS holds up compared directly to the Aero. I had suspected that the color wasn't going...
Thank you all for your feedback. Is sounds like the bottom line is that the TS is "okay" but I could do better for not much more money. You've certainly given me things to consider. TS has a very painless return policy, which is a point in their favor. The Aero Highwayman would be the other...
Thanks for the responses! @Carlos840 thanks for pointing out some alternative brands. Aero's Highwayman appears to be very similar and horsehide instead of steer. It would run me $900 before shipping. The Taylor Stitch can be had for 20% off which brings it to $700. Without the discount the...
Hello gents. It's been a while. I hope you're all doing well. I've owned only one leather jacket in my life, and it was a poor excuse for one from a department store. I'm looking into purchasing a "real" leather jacket, and this Moto Jacket from Taylor Stitch has caught my eye. I'm really a...
It's a piece of cloth. Perhaps once it symbolized the freedom and liberty that our Founder's fight and died for, but not anymore. The current state of this nation is disrespectful to the original intent of those men. A flag being worn and touching the ground are trivial complaints compared to...
Would that happen to have been "Not Your Father's Root Beer"? I picked up a 6 pack of their 5% abv (thought I understand they make a 10%) and it's very good.
