Great points, Doc. I also think this one is a keeper for sure and I’ll stick with the sleeve length on this particular jacket.
This forum has done absolutely nothing but fuel my desire for the next “step up” in quality, fit and finish of a G1. :)
Thanks Tropicalbob! The little extra sleeve length does help when I’ve got a light sweater underneath. In realty I’d probably need a size 38 sleeve with a 40 body.
Thanks Robinray. I gave the jacket sleeves some HWT treatment today and I can actually smell leather now, not chemicals! Perhaps that’s the trick to getting some of that finish off.
I found this Schott in a vintage shop a few weeks ago and the price was great so I picked it up. Overall it’s a very clean jacket. I sent these pics to Gail at Schott and she dated it as an early 80’s 675 based on the “Robin” zipper. She also said the original would have had a pile collar so...
Thanks for the info Mojo. I totally appreciate it and keep trying to come up with an excuse to get over to Seattle so I can check out your shop! I'll check out the Dr. Jackson's for sure.
Thanks for the info HD...that's why I'm nervous about what product and how much to use. I'm considering doing a very small test patch somewhere on the jacket that isn't highly visible just to see how it turns out.
Quick question about patina: A little while ago I posted about finding a cool AMF Harley 70's motorcycle jacket at a garage sale (size 46). I have since then gone a little crazy and decided to find one that was a little smaller (size 42) and ended up finding a fantastic deal on ebay for the same...
A2's can totally be worn by younger guys and not look "dad-ish." Remember, it's the whole package, not just the jacket. The A2 worn with a nice, worn pair of Redwings or other work-boots, Levi's with the cuffs rolled up, a light sweater, with a pearl snap vintage shirt underneath and scarf would...
Thanks for the great compliments guys. I'm going to wear it and enjoy the heck out of it. After all, I've never felt so cool while wearing this jacket with a sweater vest in my entire life...haha!
Thanks Butte. You better believe I'll have a chance to wear it this winter as it's already getting cold here...quick. I'm sure your friends in Butte are starting to get a little chilly as well. Pasadena sounds pretty good to me come about February.
Thanks Coffee..I appreciate the wise and candid feedback for sure. It's quickly growing on me for sure and I think it's a keeper. The past few days that I've worn it I have had some really nice comments on it. Heck, my wife loves it and it's inspired me to freshen up my non-work wardrobe so...
Okay, here's a few photos so you can check out the jacket. I feel like it is a little too big (wearing just a t-shirt underneath in the photos) and I'm curious about my options:
1) just don't worry about it, wear it and enjoy it (seems to be my favorite choice right now).
2) shrink it a little...
I thought so as well. I knew that oversees manufactured items needed to have an origin label but I wasn't sure when that was put in place. I emailed Gail at Schott and she responded that they did make jackets for Harley Davidson but she couldn't confirm if Schott had made the AMF Harley Davidson...
