For what its worth, I have been wearing a new Stratoliner for several months. It gets more use than any other hat. The wide brim shades and keeps the rain away from my face.
No phone number, but just a surprise that she did not say "hat". I was checking out at a Target and a young lady used "fedora". It must be more common than I suspected. The hat I was wearing that day was a fur felt grey Trilby from the Bollman reissue collection.
As to the "Indiana Jones"...
Women comment that they like my fedora. For the younger women, they have not grown up seeing the brimmed hat being worn and I think they like the look on a man.
Thank you for the advice, Terry. The velour hat that should arrive on Monday is a good example of what you were talking about and I got it for $35 plus postage. It was on my "bucket" list because I remember a great uncle having one in the '60's

Additionally, I like an extra full cut on my...
I don't think you need to go custom, although that is a viable option. I have a Stetson Open Road that over times has been reduced to a had with nothing inside. I wear this hat year around on the farm in all weather and even let the babies play with it. Without exception, a bit of steam iron...
It will take the experience of wearing a hat as a peice of clothing, not a novelty. I am receiving positive comments from my co workers and customers on my hats, but that it not why I wear them. I wear them because it is likely standing under a shade tree in Summer and inside a warm room in...
To work last week, laundered khakis, white long sleeved pressed white shirt (not buttoned down), light yellow print silk long tie, and my new Stetson Stratoliner, with old man SAS cordovans. I got several favorable comments and one, "you look nice today"...LOL!! Those silver bellys go well with...
