With my relationship with my son's mother having been over for a year and a half now, and with her recently telling me that she plans to move with our boy to Atlanta within the next 12 months (a decision which, as much as it pains me, I fully support -- this town we live in is not a healthy...
No, that makes perfect sense. I'd be honored to have you copy my hat... it means I must have struck onto something awesome. lol I'm so glad it's turning out to be such a hit. I wasn't expecting that from just a simple tribute hat... :)

Art did the crease job on it, and I've been fiddling with it ever since, so I guess it's a kind of a collaborative crease. lol The bash had fallen out of the hat during shipping, but the felt has wonderful memory, so it went right back into shape, no problem.
I just measured the brim and...
Not sure on the crown height... I have no clue how I'd even begin to try to measure that accurately, but a tape measure, my untrained eyeball, and a little bit of "I hope it's right" are telling me 5.5" open crown... perhaps Art can help us out with the specs? I'm probably *way* off.
Thank...
:D :D Thank you, sir!!! High praise coming from a stylish gent like yourself.
I can't go on enough about how in-love I am with the felt. It's soft and supple, and will hold any crease I give it, but not so much that I can't just pop it out and re-do it by hand should I, for instance, bump...
Dum-de-dum-dum
My hat came Monday! It's my first Art creation... and definitely not my last.
Art had to put up with me being very specific and sending a ton of reference photos, so I thank him for that. : ) What I wanted was as close a copy as possible of the hat Jack Webb wore as Joe...
Conformer came today! It's all locked up and ready to ship back out to Art tomorrow. Very excited.
Had it shipped to me at work, because it's more convenient that way. Couldn't wait to get the conformer home to fit it, so I did it in the restroom mirror. And then a co-worker walked in...
Yeah, I knew (or figured) that we could do it completely through e-mail or PMs if desired, but I felt at least for the first hat, it was important to give a call, especially since I'm being so exacting and pedantic about the design I want. lol
For subsequent hats, I'm basically planning to...
Took the plunge!
I PM'd Art on Tuesday and asked for some basic information, and then proceeded to procrastinate calling him until Thursday afternoon, because of my extreme shyness. (Nothing about him; everything I'd read on here said he was a really friendly guy. I'm just shy by nature, and...
What I Wore Today (Special 'Two-Days-Ago' Edition!)
Went to the ex's house after work on Tuesday to celebrate our son's fifth birthday.
Little Christopher, by all accounts, had a blast. ^_^
- Jaxon "Monk" porkpie
- Vintage bow tie
- Modern jacket (you can't tell in the...
Fair enough. :) Everyone's mileage varies, of course. Me, I'm partial to nice, soft hats, so long as they're not floppy and shapeless. lol I one day wouldn't mind a nice stiff felt hat (a bowler or somesuch), but for me the problem with the Gangster wasn't even the stiffness so much as the...
"No" on Gangster
I have no experience with the other two hats, Madcap, but I would definitely advise you to avoid the Bailey Gangster like the plague. I bought one once -- fortunately, thanks to VHS's excellent return policy, I was able to basically able to send it back, no questions asked...
Congrats, Dumbjaw!
I was eyeing that hat myself until I realized that I'd mis-read the description and that it was a 7-3/4 LO, and not a 7-3/8 LO... ah well. Congrats! Wear it in in good health. :fedora:
Before I realized it wasn't my size ( :o ), I tried doing a little "research" (read: a...
The thing I love about these "rules" is that there's no explanation whatosever for why you should follow them. Like, instead of, "Match socks to trousers because it lengthens the leg, giving an illusion of height" (for example), it just says, "Match your socks to your trousers. 'Cause we said...
Hey, all... haven't posted in months (work and such), and figures the first day I come back, I see this. :)
What's hilarious is, I'm such a Dragnet junkie that I didn't even need to follow the link... I read "climbing stairs" and then a mention of Lee Marvin and I knew right off which episode...
I don't wear my hats super-high, but I don't cram them down onto my head, either, unless there's a good wind going on (and then I hold onto it for dear life!... my kingdom for a wind trolley). Normal wear, my hats tend to sit with my hairline just hidden by the sweatband -- about two inches of...
