A great jacket of soft, supple goatskin in dark brown that smells like the interior of a BMW. From U.S. Authentic/Flightjacket.com; rust soft cotton lining, Talon zipper, hook and eye closure at collar, Army Air Corps WWII label, all the A-2 bits. I love the jacket but it is just about a size...
VERY nice, Tony! I own the standard USAuthentic goatskin A-2 which I like a lot, though it is a darker, seal(esque) brown. Your new A-2 seems to be to have the best of both worlds: the suppleness of goat, the period-authentic russet brown of horsehide. Great choice.
Juanito. Thanks for the detailed info, re W&G A-2s. I think the jacket I was bidding on was an early '80s; unfortunately I didn't get it but, thanks to your posting, I now have some benchmarks to look for in future listings.
I have a W&G G-1 goat and love it; soft and supple leather, trim fit. But I know nothing about their A-2 horsehide, circa 1980s. What't the leather like? Anybody have one, or any info that provides some insight? I'm currently following a couple of them on eBay. Thanks, guys.
Go to Sierra Trading Post's Web page; they almost always have English Gloveral duffle coats on sale for 50% (or more) off. Heavy wool, hooded, horn toggle buttons. Usually you can get a $500 coat for $200 or so. Size and color choices are, of course, generally limited.
Thanks for sharing, Steve. Great photos of a real beauty. Love the color. Question: How is the fit? Trim? Relaxed? Also, what is the measurement across the chest, armpit to armpit. Thanks.
I've had excellent results using Lexol, which you generally have to buy at a leather specialty store. Soaks in slowly, renders the leather soft and supple. If it's really old and dry, you might have to use two treatments.
Hi John (in Covina). At the time I ordered, Stuart did have one of the cotton twill A-2s available in size L, but that was as large as he had them. Check out the Sale section on the LW web site: $100.
Lost Worlds Cotton Twill A-2
In the mail yesterday, a handsome cotton twill take on the A-2. Outer is a medium-weight (nice and solid, but not heavy) khaki cotton twill, inside/cuffs/waist are OD, a nice complement to the khaki. This impresses me as a really well-made jacket: fit and finish are...
Agree with SPAD on all points. Prior to my USAuth goatskin A-2, I had Cooper and Avirex jackets. The former had noticeably thinner leather, the latter had noticeably stiffer leather (though about the same weight). Neither had the thickness/suppleness combo of the USAuth. And the Avirex was a...
I'd say it's a fairly heavy goatskin, very thick but still supple. The grain consistency on mine is pretty uniform throughout, the same nice pebbly pattern. The cuffs are on the long side, but I prefer them that way. All in all, I'm totally happy with the jacket.
Same Jacket, Same Satisfaction
I received the3 exact same jacket about 3 weeks ago, and am totally satisfied. Nice, trim fit and everything about the jacket, from materials to workmanship, is first rate. And it smells like the interior of a new BMW. I see the Toby mug replica from "Twelve...
