My first "real" hat.
I've got my new Silverbelly Campdraft on today for the first time and it's raining/snowing. My head is staying toasty warm. Perfect Akubra weather. The wide brim is like wearing an umbrella. Loving it! Campdraft or Fed IV - can't go wrong. The Silverbelly is more sand color than silver. -

Good points by Rodkins and Historyteach. Akubras also wear very well and improve with age. Wear them in the rain and snow - no problem. Search the forums here for the FedIV and Campdraft - they both have lots of fans. -

Akubra is the way to go. I have 2 Fed IVs and a Campdraft all in size 63. When I first got the Fed IVs they required a little sizing tape on the sides but after some wear both hats shrunk just enough to conform to my head nicely. I just got the Campdraft and expect the same result. Bought... -

Skyvue - I just ordered an Akubra Rink from Hatsdirect in size 63. Very similar to the Capricorn and they go up to size 64. They don't stock them but Jenny is putting an order into Akubra on Wednesday for delivery in early June. If you can stand the wait this may be a good option for you... -

alanfgag - That hat you're wearing on the beach is fantastic (as is the coat). I grew up on eastern Long Island. Still travel there often to see family and friends in Mattituck and Quogue. Fall is my favorite season out there. -

I love the Fed IV!!
Thanks Kirk. Looking forward to getting my new lid. My brown Fed has really softened up in the 2 weeks I've been wearing it. Now I know what folks here are talking about. Very noticeable difference. Looks like it will get a rain test in a few days. -

Just pulled the trigger on a tawny fawn Fed IV. Will be my second Fed - have the brown now. I was back and forth between another Fed or a Campdraft but went for the Fed. That tawny fawn color seems quite versatile. Maybe get a silverbelly Campdraft in the spring. Haven't had a chance to wear... -

Good point mOnk. Different hats for different occasions, seasons and styles - pretty soon you've got 6 or 7 hats without really trying. The Fed IV as a drinking hat - I like it. Time to open a nice bottle of bordeaux and toast the new lid. -
