Non-eBay Hunting Grounds
Hi Guys,
Has anyone had decent luck finding decent hats at Goodwill, estate sales, etc.? Are there any good hat hunting grounds other than eBay and retail?
And... anyone got any good stories to tell, like scoring a Borsalino for $5 from some kid who thought it looked...
Ezra Brooks bourbon, neat. One of my go-to tipples.
After years of experimenting with high-end whiskies, I found myself settling in to Ezra Brooks as my regular. When I mentioned that to my father, he told me Ezra Brooks was what my grandfather always drank, which I didn't know. It was...
Seems to me Pompidou's question has morphed from "What does my hat say about me?" to "Why do I wear a hat?"
Seems to me they're both legitimate questions.
Also seems to me, even if one is not trying to make a particular statement by wearing a hat, it still makes a statement. All our choices...
Hi Don,
A martini garnished with cocktail onions... that would be a Gibson.
Dang, could go for one 'bout now. Kinda early, though. And the boss would frown.
I've never seen gin-marinated olives in a store... is that something you bought, or made yourself?
Yeah, Raichles usually had red laces, and they were a popular top brand hiking boot back then. That's probably it.
Vasques usually had red and black laces, as I recall.
Brian, I'm not 100% sure what you mean by "new vintage style mountain boots". To me, that means no injection molding (welt...
This is all super helpful, guys. Thanks.
While not totally ruling out custom, I'm leaning toward either the Squatter or Campdraft. I know I mentioned the Fed IV up front, but I've grown more convinced that my face just isn't as well suited to the dimensional brim. And while custom has fit and...
Waah... Everytime I drive through it, I'm floored by what a wide state Tennessee is. And then I forget. Eight hours! 420 miles!
Lessee... Caddy gets about 22 mpg... 420 / 22 * 2 * $3.40.... I get $129.82. Tack on $60 for a hotel. Round to $190. Prolly need to eat something.... several...
>And, I seem to be right square between a 7 3/4 and 7 1/2...
Woops, meant 7 3/8 and 7 1/2.
Great info guys... I might just have to take a trip to Buckaroo or Garrison.
At the other end, the Squatter is looking pretty good. It's a wider brim than I was thinking, but it might be just fine...
Thanks for the quick replies.
Price is an issue, but those prices aren't out of the question. As I said, the Stetson Benchley is pushing at the top end of my comfort zone, but it's a possibility. It retails for what, $325 or so?
While I totally get the fascination and appeal of collecting, I'm a one-hat kinda guy. I like having one hat I wear to hell and back, something that starts to feel like a part of myself.
I have this inexpensive Eddie Bauer lite-felt thin-band crushable fedora I've been wearing for close to 20...
Thanks, guys.
The Hour ... I just love that book. Don't agree with everything he says (I'm not sure we're supposed to), but man can DeVoto write! I laugh out loud when reading it, not because he's being humorous, precisely, but just from sheer enjoyment of the writing.
KP, were you a Ranger...
Hi Folks,
As the thingy over <---- there says, I'm new in town.
I hope it won't be taken amiss if I share a little project of mine... I wrote the Martini FAQ a number of years ago (ca 1998), and have been tinkering with it off and on since.
