Yup, ****** it all away. No, actually, a certain other very popular website whose name shall be Faceless swallowed my entire identity. But I crawled back out and I'm here. :-) I missed you bunch of knuckleheads!

    What Are You Reading

Continuing my trend pf presidential biographies, I just finished Woodrow Wilson by John Milton Cooper, Jr. I found him a MUCH more attractive and sympathetic character than I expected. He is a VERY important president for many reasons. Among many fascinating things I learned was the...

What Was The Last Movie You Watched?

FINALLY saw Truffait's first film, The 400 Blows. That was devastating, but wonderful. I also got several old Jacques Tati films on DVD, including the 1957 Mon Oncle, and his first full length film Jour de Fetes, from 1949, and Trafic, from 1971. All HIGHLY recommended.

What are the Oldest Objects you Own?

Circa 1690 Dutch brick excavated (and nefariously absconded with by the person who gave it to me years ago) from lower Manhattan.

Who Did You Just See Live?

I caught two phenomenal concerts in the last month. On February 12th I had the privilege of catching the 90th Anniversary of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, at the Town Hall in Manhattan. It was presented by the great Vince Giordano and his Nighthawks, augmented by extra brass and strings...

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

Saw Last Year in Marienbad back in the 60s when I was about 15. Blew my mind, and permanently changed the way I perceive reality. Great artist.

    My Wooden Canoe

Absolutely gorgeous canoe. Regarding Margaret Rutherford's Miss Marple, the movies are great fun, but her Miss Marple is very far from Agatha Christie's character. Dame Agatha always said she thought Joan Hickson was the perfect Miss Marple.

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

Michele Savoia, talented tailor and designer. In New York, if you wanted the real look high waisted trousers, and suits, Savoia was the guy to go to. Terrible loss. http://nypost.com/2014/02/16/fashion-designer-michele-savoia-found-dead-near-yacht/

    House of Savoia

Terrible tragedy. He lived on a boat at the yacht basin. I suspect that this was another example of the fact the alcohol and boats don't mix well. I've seen a lot of his work, he was very talented. RIP.

    The Origin Of "The Fifties"

My recollection had been that the 50s cult had started before Sha Na Na. But now that I think back, I think the writer may have something. I was born in 1946, and I must say, I have a pretty uncanny memory for things that happened a long time ago. But I also remember being shocked when the...

    Mrs. Miniver?

Well, it's really both. It's a classic and it's propaganda. Wouldn't call it "phoney" propaganda. The people who made it were very sincere about what the thought they were fighting for. There are a lot of Brits today who are VERY cynical about everything British, both the good and the bad...

    MacArthur's hat

Not a Mac fan either. When he found out that he had been promoted to General of the Armies, i.e. 5 star grade, he got a bunch of enlisted men to file down some silver dimes to create a five star emblem like the one Ike had.
