I've been in pursuit of a good Henley undershirt comparable to those of the Golden Era, and finally found this:
http://www.barongsrus.com/barong/white-camisa-chino-p-371.html
It is made of 100% cotton, and features a three-button front and ribbed short sleeves. And the best part is, they're...
Matt Deckard has a very cool article on the vintage college wardrobe. It contains a great list that I've been trying to follow as much as possible myself.

With the exception of owning several more suits and a good...
I've just recently bought an original copy of Emily Post's 1922 Etiquette, a book that contains a very detailed chapter on Balls and Dances, as well as many other formal nighttime events.
According to Emily Post, the full dress white tie is worn at an opera, at an evening wedding, at a dinner...
Pera.T, you and I have the same hairstyle, and for the same reasons. Like you, my hair is very thick, and looks funny if the sides are not cut short. I figure that this haircut is Golden Era enough, as Michael Pitt's character sports it on Boardwalk Empire.
How often does PF Flyers do its 'Archival Revivals'? I seem to have missed the Ringside, Sumfun, and Rambler from a few years ago, but would love to buy a pair if they were ever brought back again.
I know I'm late to the party, but I just watched the interview. I purchased Alan Flusser's Dressing the Man a few months ago and have read through it.
Overall, I like what Mr. Flusser has to say. He's right about a lot of things. Dressing well is easier than most men think, and nowadays, there...
I really like these kinds of shirts, and wear them often. For me, it was actually Kramer from the TV show Seinfeld that sparked my interest in them. That sporty 1950s look is actually pretty easy to pull off, since there are a lot of passable modern items that work for it. I never look nearly as...
Right, I think it was Marc Chevalier who said that he would never do business with an internet tailor that does not show real pictures of their products.
Reconstructing History depicts a lot of suits from movies, and a lot of pictures that are also used by MyCustomTailor, and other such...
Looking at their fabrics, they all seem to be of the typical modern superweight variety. Did you just go with one of those, or did you request something else? Do they have other fabrics than the ones listed? I like the overall website and think that the company looks promising, but like they...
I have seen pictures of old Civil War veterans in the Golden Era wearing full beards, but other than that, I can't think of any other examples. That might support the idea that beards were only worn by old men, who would have been alive when that style was more prevalent. As for the goatee, I...
I actually quite like this combination, thought it's not something that I regularly wear. I recall Don Draper wearing this outfit somewhere in season two, when he visits Anna in California. It looked really great on him.

Qirrel, do you know exactly when this style of morning coat would have been regularly worn? Was it just a late-Victorian thing, or did it continue on into the Edwardian era and Roaring Twenties?
I am in no way an expert on Victorian clothing, and I don't pretend to be. But just looking at this coat, it appears to be pretty standard late-Victorian. Notice the cutaway front, four snap button closure and high gorge that appears to meet exactly with the waistcoat's. I don't think it's meant...
As much as I love to make sure that all the little details are in place, there is something undeniably cool about looking like you just rolled out of bed and put on whatever was lying around.
I think Matt Deckard is the master of nonchalance in his dress. Just look at the pictures of him...
Definitely check out RealMenRealStyle. The author, Antionio Centeno, puts a big emphasis on the fit of clothing, and I totally agree with this. Some of his ideas come off as more of fashion advice than true classic style (i.e. saying that tall men should wear their pants uncuffed), but for the...
Exactly. I tend to follow the pre-1920s notion that suspenders are an undergarment, and are not to be exposed. If I am wearing any kind of waist covering, I'll go with suspenders. In the summertime when I shed my waistcoat, I go with a belt.
I like polyester. It will never beat wool, cotton, and linen, of course, but it has its uses. Like someone said earlier in this thread, polyester has advanced since its heyday in the 1970s. It can now be made a lot softer, and can come pretty close to natural fibers. There are a lot of people...
I also have a bit of an interest in the turn-of-the-century era. While looking for information on the fall of the frock coat, I came across this website: http://ushist.com/victorian_mens_clothing_f.shtml
In the site's menswear section, they offer made-to-order sack suits. I can't speak for...
