Yes, in linen, or a very finely-woven worsted wool. Even a good cotton or hemp duck. I do not have much experience of very expensive clothes made for a warm climate (I'm from Scotland) but this didn't feel like it would last long.
Today I made that jacket look significantly more high end by trimming, with extreme care, all the edges of the entire jacket with a pair of very sharp scissors, including the raised parts from the nearly worn out patches. The sillhouette is now utterly crisp and defined. The effect is remarkable.
I had a disgusting experience in Burberry on this very topic. I tried on a pea coat for which they wanted $1,200 and on which there was about 5 threads holding on each button. I could not believe it. I also looked at some Canali sports jackets- they wanted $2,200 for an unlined jacket the fabric...
I'd give steve dempster at www.theinvisibleedge.co.uk a couple of pics for info/rating. He's also a pretty good honemeister, which is a rare and wonderful thing nowadays. If you need a strop, please tell the vendor he MUST pack it in an inflexible box, with lots of padding. I got one which was...
You're right on the money, Edward. 1099 yuan is around $170 I think, but that's just the price you have to pay to get the real thing here. Denim jackets aren't popular. I'm in Suzhou, around 35 minutes high speed train from Shanghai, which does have an Edwin store. Their jackets start at 1,890...
I shall sew it back on forthwith sir!
On an additional note, do you have any tips for recognising whether a jacket is canvassed or fused? I've noticed my new purchase has a strange feeling to it when worn, like there are two distinct layers to the construction and occasionally there are little...
Hi all
I've spent the last few days going through Suzhou, in Eastern China (where I live and work at the moment), to get myself an acceptable sports jacket. I eventually bought a navy one by Giovanni Bellini in soft, thick, closely woven 100% new wool, with a tourquoise and purple "tweedy...
About 20 years ago i very nearly bought a pair of desert boots that were xly similar, except the hair was longer and the colours were black and white. I still regret not buying them, but at the time I thought they might shed a lot, so i went with something else- can't remember what i eventually...
I could go on and on, but there are far more knowledgeable people than I on www.badgerandblade.com Check out the straight razor section and learn a lot.
I take your point, but I had no choice. Denim jackets are thin on the ground around here and this is the least distressed one I've seen. They charge MORE for the distressed ones now. A "really quite distressed" one was 100rmb (a tenner) more!
You'll pay at least $100 for any pair of Levi's in The UK, China and many other places. In Suzhou, China, you need to pay $225 min. for Levi's selvedge. Edwin jeans in Shanghai start at 1,380 rmb, or around $215 and go up from there. Some of their denim jackets cost $375. Denim is big money now...
Hello all
First post, referred by some of the guys on www.badgerandblade.com (the haberdashery)
I've recently became interested in denim and have bought some respectable, if affordable jeans in dark, undistressed denim (Mujo and Uni-Qlo). I've been looking for the right denim jacket for years...
