Oh, man. I come back to the Lounge for a visit and this is the first thread I come across. I met John when some of us got together for a showing of "It's a Wonderful Life" at the Million Dollar Theater in Los Angeles, December 2009 if I recall correctly. I happened to be out there visiting...
I feel your pain, DC! I've been struggling with it recently as well, but I've not yet had the time to look at the other options.
Why is it that just about every site that provides a service starts out nice and clean and works well, and eventually they do a makeover that ruins it all? It's been...
I've not seen this thread before; will need to go back and check out everyone's photos when I have more time. In the meanwhile, here's one I recently took of a bee foraging at our bird feeder last week. It has been cropped:
Here is the original shot:
Cheers,
Tom
Just checking in after checking out all the great hats from the last couple of days. Today due to lousy weather I wore my beater Lee, but yesterday it was beautiful and I wore a Borsalino:
Cheers,
Tom
Well, I know it's changed a lot since I was stationed there at Bergstrom Air Force Base. The last time I visited there was over 10 years ago. But I still have friends there, and need to get down there for a visit.
Austin is a great place to live; it was second only to southern Oregon as places on my list to retire to. (So how in the hell did I wind up in southern Ohio?) Austin has only one major disadvantage: there is so much Texas around it!
Cheers,
Tom
Well, we've decided to dive right in!
Rhonda and I have joined the Ohio State Beekeepers Association as well as the Scioto Valley Beekeepers Association. The SVB has a class starting in April that we'll attend. We've already been to one monthly meeting and last night we went to their annual...
We have a landline and I wouldn't be without one for the same reasons others have listed: poor cell phone reception at the house (we're rural), 911, power failures, etcetera. We have cordless phones but we also have corded phones that work during power outages. All that, plus for some reason I...
Boy, miss a day and it's a flood of great hats!
Alan, wonderful pair of homburgs! I didn't know it was IHW, but I'll see about wearing one tomorrow.
Bowlerman, I love that dark cherry lords hat!
And the rest... too many to mention but appreciated none the less!
Here's my hat of the day, a...
Cheaper By The Dozon, 1950
(Posted about this on my Facebook page, then remembered this thread.)
Rhonda and I just finished watching "Cheaper By The Dozen", the original movie from 1950 with Clifton Webb and Myrna Loy. At the end of the movie a voice-over notes that Lillian Gilbreth, the...
I didn't bid on the Nutria, but I did bid and win the Strat. I didn't really expect to win as I'd thought I'd low-balled it with my bid, but sometimes you get lucky. I think the photos and the fact the seller didn't bother trying to shape it at all helped keep bidding down. I'm not complaining...
Stetson Nutria and a Stratoliner at decent prices
This 7 1/4 Stetson Nutria went for a reasonable price:
Not sure about the ribbon thing, though. Looks like a ribbon wrapped around it and stuck in place with the Roadrunner pin.
Reasonable price for a Stratoliner 7 3-8 Long Oval that needs...
As always, some great hats out there!
Yesterday we had a bit of rain in the morning, so I wore what has been my daily beater the past few years. It's sweat-stained, it needs a good cleaning and reflanging, but it's my go-to hat. On of the problems I've been having in recent years is with...
It's not just technology that's to blame for this one, Congress has had it's hand in it with the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006. Congress also controls postal rates, which is why we don't get charged what it really costs to transport a letter across the US. Imagine if all...
Happy Birthday, Monte!
Sweet hat, RLK!
For my Hat of the Day, something different for me: A burgundy homburg made for and sold by Tip Thompson's Men's Shop in Shelbyville, TN. It's unclear whether or not that store is still open today.
Cheers,
Tom
