    I love the Fed IV!!

Thankyou! Scissors were used, with a nail file to finish. I've done it a few times now and it works perfectly. I don't think there is anywhere within a few hundred kilometres that does work on hats, though if i'm wrong i'd love to find out where. Picker, Is that a black or Carbon grey? looks great.

    I love the Fed IV!!

Very nice, maybe it's the lighting but your brown Fed doesn't look quite as dark as the others.

    I love the Fed IV!!

This is my Fed, if you can still call it a Fed. 2 inch wide brim, re re done ribbon. A few days from now I will be doing a bronzey goldish brim binding also, i'm just practicing on another hat first. The brim is stingyrific! honestly though the brim doesn't appear to be that short...

    I love the Fed IV!!

I trimmed my Fed to 2 1/8th inches, uniform. Suits a thinner framed person better in my opinion. Pics are on page 73 of this thread if you want to see, though I am cutting it down to 2 inches a bit later, and I have redone the ribbon again since those photos to a really puffy, flying V type...

James71, is your squatter superfine quality felt? If so, is it noticebly softer? Cheers, Dan

Thanks James! I like the CEO actually, you have quite a collection of akubra's.

Thanks monbla, I will check out the website later tonight when i have some time. I think the campdraft would make me look a bit like a stick insect though, the Fed size is already pushing the envelope. James, If you have decent front on pics of the CEO and the squatter, i'd love to see them! I...

    Akubra Overload

Thanks Neo! I'd really like to find an akubra with less taper and a taller crown, though not quite that of the Fed's. Maybe I could modify one of the westerns.. Cheers, Danny

Ask a question, get an answer

I agree, an Akubra Fed IV would suit your face really well IMHO. Which Akubra is the one in your picture?

That's what I mean though, it seems as though the crown, while creased differently, could be formed on the same block. Likewise the brims on all the stylemasters and bogarts that I have seen are the same. So they would share the same hat body, essentially making them the same hat. If anybody...

    Rare one

I'm a bit jealous of that one! Love how it has much less taper compared to modern ones.

The brim shape? They look the same. The ribbon's are different widths. City hatters in Melbourne actually have bogart's with stylemaster type bashes, as well as the centredent type.

Looks like a vintage hat! I love it, well done, great colour ribbon too.

    Akubra Overload

Thanks VitaminG! Fairly rough handling was required, and plenty of steam. sortof bending and folding the felt in the opposite direction that it was to begin with, if that makes sense? and putting a smooth surface on the inside and rubbing against it with my thumb from the outside. I heard that...

    I love the Fed IV!!

I used the cheap 'measure outward, close eyes, hack at it with scissors and hope you still have a hat afterwards' method... finishing of with my sister's nail file. I have practiced on an old cattleman previously so I was fairly confident, marking with a sharp pencil. Also have plans for an...

    I love the Fed IV!!

Thanks heaps everybody! He wanted a hug just as the picture was being taken, he is the most attention hungry dog I have ever met, just needs to be touching people every second of the day! I agree about the turn of the hat, though I didn't lose too much snap and it didn't seem to snap much...

    I love the Fed IV!!

Modified Fed Well, here it is! I opted for a deeper centre dent and evened out the height front to back, with not quite front, not quite side pinch? Not sure of the name. I also trimmed the brim to a uniform 55mm all around. The result is great in my opinion, I love it! I...

    I love the Fed IV!!

Cybergentleman, Mine was bought only recently and it has almost no taper, infact with the bash it almost mushroom's out toward the top! So rest assured it is still a straight sided block. Wolfwood, I played with the bash some more last night, just dry, I am starting to get some good idea's...

    I love the Fed IV!!

G'day guys, perhaps a stupid question, but if I don't ask... Is there a way to put a small amount of taper into the Fed? I have been experimenting with the bash lately, and I think it would look quite good with a bit of taper, while keeping the tall crown. Has anybody achieved anything similar...

    Akubra Overload

Thanks Neophyte and Duper! The original shape of the ribbon wasn't bad, it just looked as though it had been done in a rush, and a little splash of colour on a darker hat can't be a bad thing :) @Mercuryfelt76 - This thread is for all Akubra's big and small, there is just a few that a much more...
