Won’t trade it for pure gold …

Very nice jacket, sir. You wear it well.

    Hat sizing revisited

My personal experience - I'd rather get a hat that's slightly large, and use a sizing strip to get it smaller. I've tried stretchers, and they just didn't give the results I wanted. It's much easier to make a hat smaller than it is to make it larger. And hats usually shrink over time with...

    Akubra Hats

I have 3 Fed IV Deluxe's, a regular Fed IV, 4 regular Camp Draft's, and 1 Campdraft Deluxe. I love all of them. I have a few other hats but they aren't even close to being as comfortable as the Akubra's. The thing I like most about the Akubra's is the sweat band. It's really soft. Even on...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

    Welcome! Nice hat.

How many hats do you own?

Only counting fedoras (and not westerns), the hats that fit, and the hats that I would actually wear (my first fedora was a leather Indy) the total comes to 13. 3 Beaver Brand Heritage grade 3 Akubra Fed IV Heritage grade 1 Akubra Fed IV Imperial grade 1 Akubra Campdraft Heritage grade 4...

What are the rules for matching hat to attire?

I wear whatever material and color makes me happy with little regard to the season. This applies to not only my hats, but my entire wardrobe. If you have found your personal style, and are secure enough with who you are to wear it, then I say do what makes you happy. As the others have...

    Most comfortable hat I have

I bought a used Bluegrass Green Campdraft from the same Gent I bought the used Fed IV from. It's not as old, and I'm only the 2nd owner (I think), but it runs a very close 2nd to the Fed IV in comfort. Edward - I've given all of my new Akubra's a good soak with distilled water (after...

    Most comfortable hat I have

A dark brown Akubra Federation IV. I'm the 4th owner. The felt shows some honest wear and is really soft, and the leather sweat band is like butter. It instantly conforms to my noggin. I can wear it all day without ever feeling it on my head. The rest of my Akubra's are well on their way to...

    Something I'm missing?

What does it do when you use the stars? I never noticed the ratings thingy either. Now that someone's mentioned it, I see a bunch of threads with stars...

    Akubra Campdraft

I'd order a 59 and see how it fits. All of my Akubra's have shrunk a little, including my CD Silver Belly Deluxe. If the 59 fits better, and I'm sure it will, sell the 60. I'm betting you'll be able to get pretty close to what you've got into it from a fellow Akubra lover who understands how...

What is the Akubra Fed IV Made Of?

They do, indeed, improve! Once I have mine bashed the way I want it, I pull the liner, then use a spray bottle to completely soak the hat with distilled water. I buy my hats one size larger than I need, and this shrinks it to the proper size. When it dries it's much softer. I've had a few...

    Akubra Campdraft

I understand they are all the same hat. I'm just wondering if there is a difference between "Campdraft" and "Camp Draft" as it relates to it's proper meaning. BTW - which spelling is correct - "Campdraft" or "Camp Draft"?

    Akubra Campdraft

So... what's the difference between "Camp Draft" and "Campdraft"? One of my Campdrafts says "Campdraft" on the sweat, the other Camp Drafts say "Camp Draft".

What?! I thought it was for protecting your head from drafts when you're camping.

    Akubra Campdraft

I haven't seen the movie yet, so I'll have to take your word on it that the hat looks like yours. It's not really fitting my taste is hats, though. The only time I wear a western hat is on those days when I dress up and play cowboy at CAS matches. Even though the western and the fedora are...

    Sweat Stains and Silverbellys

I've not used anything other than water to clean any of my hats, so I can offer no advice on any of the cleaners. However, I have had excellent results getting surface dirt and light stains off the felt with a brush and a sponge.

    Sweat Stains and Silverbellys

Blot it. I use a white cotton handkerchief - you don't want the towel or rag to bleed it's color into the ribbon or felt. Usually just spraying an area about twice the size of the stain will dilute the salt enough that it disappears. If it doesn't, I use the towel/rag to blot it out.

    Sweat Stains and Silverbellys

I've always managed to get sweat stains out of the felt using water. I have a small spray bottle that I use to spritz the felt. I spray an area larger than the stain. If it's a tough stain - being stubborn - I'll use a piece of cloth or cotton towel to lift the stain from the felt. I think...

    Akubra Campdraft

I just placed an order with The Hattery for a pair of Camp Drafts - a Glen Gray and a Mid-Brown. The gray is in stock. The brown should arrive in November. I think that covers the available colors for the Camp Draft - currently in my stable are the Bluegrass Green and Taupe Fawn in Imperial...
