I've always wondered how you would clean a system pipe. It sounds like a nice idea though if it can in fact be cleaned. Anyone with experience of these beasts?
EDIT: Well, it seems I was out-posted! My question was being answered while I was asking it. How's that for super-efficient? ;)
I wish that were true here. The only tobacconists I can find in Canberra (or anywhere within a 3 hour drive) sell VERY few pipe tobaccos, and often nothing else related to pipes at all! Also, the cheapest pipe tobacco here is $25 for 2oz!
The import tax on tobacco is about $150/lb if I...
Whoah, thanks guys. This is proving to be most informative, and probably to the great disappointment of my wife, quite encouraging.
I own an estate pipe, I can't remember the brand, but I think it is made in Tanganyika or something. It is a sandblasted briar with a meerschaum lining. When...
Does anybody here smoke a pipe?
I have always wanted to, but the anti smoking culture is so prevalent in my circles (and especially my wife and my parents) that I am too hesitant to start. Also I do not know any pipe smokers personally. I do own a vintage pipe, and I love to smell the bowl...
I am very glad to have found the fedora lounge. I now feel that there may be a place for my taste afterall.
I thought I would share with you that when I got married five years ago now I wore a cravat to the wedding. I had to have it made by a seamstress, since would you believe it is...
I like the fishing line idea. That stuff IS tough!
I was actually thinking about pocket watches, which is what gave me the idea. I thought of various things, some of them are even easily detachable. For instance, if you were to get a large paperclip (humour me on the paperclip for now) you...
Well since this morning I had another idea. If you were to make a strap with a thin end (like several strands of thread for example - something that would still be strong enough) then you could stick that up between stitches where you want it (maybe with a sewing needle), and then tie it to a...
Thanks Blackhorse. I checked them out, and it's given me an idea. I think I'll try my hand at making a detachable chin strap. I'm thinking that I could make something like this one.
It looks like it's fairly easy to make, and doesn't require any modifications to the hat (if you click on...
I went hat shopping with my wife on Saturday. I tried on several styles, and I was told in no uncertain terms that the wide brims look stupid on me. She is probably right. lol
Well, we reached a compromise and I'll be getting a Wentworth, which incidently comes standard with the bash I...
I took some pictures last night, so you can see my current hat.
It used to have a pinched telescope but I got sick of the rain collecting in it, so with the aid of a spray bottle (lots of spraying was needed!) I created more of the shape I want. I changed the brim too because it came...
Thanks for the replies, and the welcome!
The overseer does look quite good, but it brings me to another area of my ignorance (there are many). What is the difference between imperial and superfine quality in Akubras?
As for the bashing, I actually used a spray bottle of water, but I...
G'day all, a newbie here, so please forgive the ignorance. [huh]
I did some searching around, so please also forgive me if I'm missing some information in a forum here somewhere.
I've been wearing my old fur hat for too long (I think it has shrunk and since I never did anything about it...
