    Hats In Spain

Analogist, Having lived in Spain for two years over 30 years ago I've been very interested in many (if not all) things Spanish. I've broused the Fernandez y Roche website several times and have been interested in trying their hats. I'm glad to know someone has one and has given a nice...

    Musicians?

Yeah, Howard was one of the founding members of GIT in 1977. He got together with Pat Hicks and Tommy Tedesco and founded the school. Tommy was one of Howard's top pupils. He went from playing Italian mandolin style to being a studio guitarist in a year by following Howard's curriculum. This...

    Musicians?

I play guitar in my folk group. I've been playing for 40 years. Whenever I play out I wear a hat, have for years. It's just part of my 'look'. I've got a 12 string Martin, and an OM18 and an M38 (Martins too). I went to GIT (Guitar Insititue of Technology) in 1981. I was in Scott...

    WHAT ABOUT BERETS?

Then I guess it's a good thing that I got a 12 1/4 inch one. BTW my old beret is 30 years old. It has probably shrunk but my head is fatter too. :) Mike

    WHAT ABOUT BERETS?

I lived in Spain over 30 years ago and while there I started collecting and wearing hats. One of them was beret. I wore it a lot and the Spanish teens in the metro would give me a hard time about it but I still liked it and wore it. About a month ago I bought a big black basque beret (how...

How do you "mark" your hat as yours?

Nearly 25 years ago my wife bought me an old Mallory from a thrift store in Denver for $15. On the inside of the sweatband was a name and 1954, the year I was born. Ever since then I write my name, phone number and the date I bought the hat inside the sweatband. Once I left my gray...

What hat(s) would you wear with this topcoat?

From previous discussions we've had about dating Borsalinos we can surmise that this is from 1980 because of the '80' on the paper label. Did you notice the $135 price tag on the sweat? You don't replace the sweat and put a price tag on it. I'd say this hat was from 1980. Mike

    Symbol of Achievement

I went to Mines - didn't get the Stetson I went to Mines my Freshman year of college. That was 1972 and getting the Stetson was still quite prevalent. I remember that not only did Mines seniors wear the Stetson but there was a special Mines block you had to have in the hat. It indicated that...

    Show us your hats

Kilgour, Great shots, especially the one with the kids in the hats! I have several pix of my kids in my hats over the years. It started when the oldest was about 8 years old and the youngest (at the time) was 2. Then every couple of years I'd let them pick out the hats they wanted to wear...

    Copying vintage hats.....

I've seen the double bow in the front and back too, but I don't think this has that. But I could be wrong. I've been wrong before. ;) Mike

    Copying vintage hats.....

BT, On hats with a double bow the front of the bow is a single and the back of the bow is doubled and flared up. Thus, the bow flares to the back. On the hat in question the bow doubles and flares to the front. That's why I think the hat is being displayed with the back of the brim...

    Copying vintage hats.....

Not on mine. I can snap down either the front or the back and it looks the same. For that matter I can pinch the front or back and except for the position of the bow you can't tell the difference. Why is it so hard to accept the possibility that a hat company would choose to put the bow on...

    Copying vintage hats.....

I know where the pic came from, Capelleria Melegari in Milan. Look at the other pics on the web page. All of them are facing to the left, showing the bow. Imagine that they have this Borsalino with the bow on the right. To keep the flow with the other pics they pinch the back of the hat...

    Copying vintage hats.....

Bow on the right side? My Borsa that I bought 5 years ago in Milan looks like this one only it's in charcoal. If you look close you'll notice that the bow flairs to the front of the hat. If we could see the inside I believe that we'd see that actually the "front" of this hat in this pic...

    Old Hat needs New Life

Novelty hats Over 20 years ago when I first became aware of fur felt hats a salesman at a hat store told me that wool felt hats are "novelty" hats. They aren't designed for a long life. I've thought of them that way ever since. Mike
