Fun thread. One set of my great grandparents emigrated into the US from Denmark in the late 1800s. My grandparents on that side were born in 1914.
I also saw Jaws and Star Wars at the cinema. Jaws kept us kids outta the ocean the whole summer. Kids today think I'm ancient because I was alive...
I face a similar problem. My jacket is 44R but wear a 33 inch waist, and about 30 length. The stock 44 suits typically come with 38 inch pants with a crotch down near my knees. The tailored product always looks a bit baggy. Granted I have only got the standard waist/inseam treatment in the...
Here's my $9.99 (plus shipping) "teardrop" special from Panama Bob. I decided to get my feet wet with this "panama" style hat, and think it's pretty sweet. I didn't have much information, but believe it's from the Cuenca region. It doesn't appear bleached as the straw is a natural looking...
Nice hat!
It's not an official "limited edition" - I just called it that. Apparently, my local haberdasher in Portland (John Helmer) carries the Stylemaster in a few different colors than usually seen on the web. You can Google their name to find their site. It was labeled simply as...
Congrats. :eusa_clap I'd like to see some pics of your new mid-gray Stylemaster. Here's my new "limited edition" green one. It's by far my favorite hat (but I'm also new and don't have many).
@Gromulus,
John Helmer advertises it simply as "green." I looked everywhere inside the hat but couldn't find any codes. I would describe it as a fairly medium green - not overly light or dark. I'd assume it's the same green felt used on other Akubra models (eg, "bluegrass green"), but...
Thanks again for the input! I ended up picking up a Akubra Stylemaster in "green" from John Helmer in downtown Portland today. They also had gray and brown, but not in my size (7 3/8" or 59). My wife liked the green a lot - but I doubt it will go with my mostly grey, black, charcoal suits. I...
Can I Pull Off Wider Brims (Pics)?
I'm another hat newbie, and you probably get this a lot, but I am trying to figure out what hats work for me. So, I figure I'd throw in a few pictures and get your esteemed opinions.
My only "real" hat is a vintage Dobbs stingy (1 3/4" brim). I think I can...
I'm not a big cologne wearer, but like Armani Code in the black bottle. It's subtle and works well for me. I usually put a bit on before work in the morning.
This is my first real hat. It's a pre-50s Dobbs Twenty with a stingy snap brim (1 3/4, cavanaugh edge) and 5 inch crown. My 5 year-old daughter snapped this picture today. It doesn't really show the hat's features well, but it's all I have for now. I'm not sure if a stingy fits my full face...
As a lefty, I have never been able to comfortably use a fountain pen. My wrist tends to drag and smear the ink. I have played with a few 'lefty' fountains with the bent nib but found those worse - as they seem to anticipate the extreme hooked wrist style many lefties use. Any lefties like a...
That is nice! I'm in need of a new one in a different color than charcoal/black.
Not to hijack the thread, but what do you guys think of their Harris Tweed 3/4 Topcoat? I normally like full length, but it would probably look fine with my 5'8" height.

Definitely Laphroaig, with all that smokey, briney, medicinal goodness. I didn't like my first couple of sips 15 years ago, as it was my first Islay, but was hooked after my second glass. The Quarter Cask is nice, but I'll take the 10 any day for the price.

Hello! I lurked here a bit prior to registering, and I have to say this is my new favorite forum. My interest in hats is relatively new. I have my grandpa's 1950ish Stetson fedora with a stingy brim, but it's 1/4 inch too small and a local hatter says it's beyond normal...
