I have been listening to this station for about a month http://www.1940sukradio.co.uk/ Absolutlely love it as they also include ads from the era, so fun to listen to, even if they had no idea about things like smoking etc
You can also stream it through the Tunin Radio app, I listen in the car...

I love watching this series of shows, there are several others, eg 1900's house, 1940's house etc
Thanks guys for all the advice, I guess the number 1 thing to take away from all this is get a thorough inspection done first before your heart takes over and makes you buy it !!
I will adjust my profile to say where I am from to, probably rather misleading for some, sorry about that!
Yeah it does, I don't think it needs dramatic work, just a mild restoration, in its present state it looks kind of tacky, but thankfully they haven't destroyed any of the original features. I didn't think much of the kitchen at all, but I can work with it, and thankfully my brother is a cabinet...
I wouldn't really be upgrading, more so renewing, I probably worded that poorly. In other words, new wiring, to bring it up to code, fixing worn or broken items, basically giving it the once over, as we all know things get changed in an older house, so you might have various levels of wiring and...
No that will be a help, to see how you progress, someone getting in from the ground up, and its probably easier restoring what is already original than trying to bring something back to that era, have seen several where i live for sale but when you go in they have been almost gutted and made...
I don't know if this is in the correct spot, but in recent months my partner has decided that modern houses aren't for her, and to be honest my heart leapt as I have always loved the older houses. Where I live there are a lot of houses from the 1940's and 50's. But my concern is with modern ways...
To be honest it wasn't until I got interested in steam not that long ago that my vintage/golden era interest was sparked. I just long for those days of sharp dressing, quality products, trips on steam trains, the little villages, the old pubs, in fact everything from that era.
I can see why...
I have to say after spening nearly 3 hours looking through this thread that its probably the best thread on here, god I wish I had spent more time talking to my grandmother, I have all the pictures, just time got away, and no she is gone, god I feel guilty for not taking the time.
I hope this...
I only drank the generic beer brands until earlier this year when the mrs and I decided to have dinner at a small brewery in the Adelaide Hills in South Australia.....never again shall I drink the rubbish main stream beers!
Hands down favourite was the Red Truck Porter, an English heavier beer...
Thanks everyone for your replies, I was just curious to see if she had a website or some other page, she is a real talent, I was on this forum several years ago as a read only person and thought she was on here, all I can say is well done she is a real talent, and looks the part !!!
I all, clearly my name is Darren, I have a strong interest in the 40's and 50's mainly the machinery such as Steam trains and lorries, and the buildings from the era, also think it was a good time when people actually made an effort to dress and look the part. I don't think we will ever see it...
I tried doing a search, had no luck, but I was wondering if anyone has any information or a website for 1940's singer Lola Lamour, I have seen some clips on youtube and really enjoy her music.
Thanks in advance
Darren
