monbla256 and gtdean48, Thanks for all the advice. Much appreciated
As for the pipe, it is a Savinelli Stellar 707 http://reocities.com/NapaValley/8307/stellar.jpg Great smoke. I gotta admit I know a heck of a lot more about pipes than I do hats. I love a good Savinelli or Peterson and I have...
Jwalls, do you think an Akubra Squatter would take a diamond crease? Is there enough crown on it to pull it off? According to the web it has an Open Crown, 5-1/4" to top. As a newbie I would love any hints how to pull it off?
I am just a newbie here and I was surprise to see a thread with ball caps in it. But... seems to me the best way to handle this is let the community decide by nothing more than interest. I certainly would not keep posting here if my comments never got any interest. If they are left unanswered, I...
I am no kid, but in 1959 I was wearing a diaper not a hat. So I show deference to your experience and will use the word crease here. :) I have read that some folks suggest the Squatter needs/should be soaked to be creased. Is this really a necessity or is that just helping it keep the crease? I...
Thanks for the info. But, as a guy who hails from Texas myself, I not all Texans "crease" their hats some of us "bash" them ;-). I ask about the softness of the felt, because my Sylemaster is really firm and I am looking for a hat with a much more supple fur felt. Thanks again.
These look great! O love the Steel Grey. I like the way David Morgan bashed them. A few questions.
1. As these come with an open crown, why didn't you bash them yourself?
2. How soft is this felt? Folks here has said the Sydney is super soft, is the squatter comparable?
3. Do they run true...
Kinda what I thought. I got back home last night. So today I rummaged though my wife's fabric draw and found some thin foam used in art. It is really thin, say 1/16 of an inch. I cut a narrow strip and placed it beneath the sweat band and it fits great now.
I want to thank all the folks who...
Sorry for being so quiet. Been rather sick and now I am traveling. My guess knowing my pop, it was indeed a Sears or Wards hat. Probably Sears as my mom worked there for a few years when I was a kid. Dad was not one to spend a lot on clothes of any sort, even hats. When I get back home I will...
Got my Stylemaster
I am in England for the next few days on business. So I had an associate go down to Byrnie Utz Hats in Seattle and pick up a Stylemaster and bring one with him to the meetings. I talked with Jeremy, at Byrnie Utz, on the phone and he told me they had the Stylemaster in black...
Just woke up here in Malaysia to this. That is a nice looking hat. I just might have to get both hats after all! Thanks for posting these and congratulation.
On another note: Is there posted somewhere a ranking of the Stetson quality felt and each ones traits?
OK - I finally got through to a hatter in Seattle. No one else picks up the phone. Plus I have a friend that I will be meeting in England in a week and he is going to bring my hat with him as a carry on. I asked one of the owners at Byrnie Utz Hats if he had the Stetson Packard, I had made up my...
I guess you know Matlock was television legal drama, starring Andy Griffith. But why the connection, I am not sure. As far as I remember Matlock never wore a fedora. Maybe she associated Matlock with a private eye.
