There was a post on Horween's blog a couple of years back which went into some detail about the differences between horse and cow. Worth reading, very interesting... http://horween.wordpress.com/2010/12/14/by-request-whats-the-difference/#more-673
I think Holly recently explained that there was a minimum size the armhole could be as they stitch the lining in the the jacket inside out and then have pull the arms right way through which must be tricky with some of those heavy horsehides. I wouldn't say the standard 30s HB pattern has...
I bought this jacket about 5 years ago from Aero Scotland (on their sales page) and it's believed to be a Poughkeepsie. I'm afraid i'm no expert on A2's however, there are plenty around here so maybe someone could confirm this.
As the original lining was missing it has a replacement Aero...
Up for sale are a lovely pair of William Lennon boots. Worn but in great condition with many miles left in them. I've had rubber soles attached to the original leather soles for a bit of added grip and wear (of course, these can be replaced by you cobbler).
Blurb from their site reads...
To be honest Matt, between working 24/7, hiring new machinists, Ken coming out of retirement and Holly taking the time to write lengthy replies as well as personal emails to customers it sounds like they're doing as much as they can. I don't know all the details of the IH collab and it must be...
Just confirming the above from my experience. If they're sanforized i've noticed a little shrinking after the first wash but this soon stretches out again with wear around the waist and lengthwise is half inch max (if anything). Like Dav, I generally don't soak my sanforized denim before wear. A...
Aero made me a modified 'Stuart' model jacket a few years with the idea being just as you described - a like the A1 style but not the knitted collar (or any of the knits in my case). It gets lots of use and the buttons are rock solid, no problems so far.
I wouldn't necessarily avoid Rokit, it depends what you're after. It's really more if a second-hand shop than true vintage but it's big enough to dig around and occasionally find something good (they have a website, www.rokit.co.uk, so you can get a feel).

Anyone else come across this on the 'bay? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VTG-Mens-WW2-A2-Horsehide-Leather-Flight-Jacket-Named-MARKET-GARDEN-OVERLORD...
It's got all the bells & whistles; patches, field modded collar, etc. and the patina is just incredible. Too good to be genuine? Hefty price tag...
The lure of the open road... whether its hitching across state lines or motorcycling through the Andes, what are your favourite Period Road Trip movies? I'm a big fan of On the Road so i'm intrigued by the film adaptation, although early reviews suggest its not a patch on the book (how could it...
Welcome Rockin' Dog!
I tried an ANJ-3 from the Sales section once and it was indeed trim, trimmer than many or their A2s (although similar to Aero's '38 model). I'd advise sizing up if its the model you want, it's not a very 'blousy' cut.
After years of Aero action i've worked out that i'm...
All of the above. What a great find!
Another option may be to hunt down a genuine vintage... all the good ones seem to find their way to Japan. Free & Easy have their own store I believe, I think it's called The Rugged Museum, which sells vintage pieces alongside modern repros (haven't been...
Aero 30's Half-belt, around 5 years old. It was my first FQHH jacket and still gets plenty of regular wear.
(Shameless plug, but i've just started photographing some of my collection and uploading to a blog if anyone's interested. Can't say how often i'll update it but i'm trying my best...
With the weather starting to turn chilly here i've been layering a jumper over a shirt and thankful i've got an A2 which fits slightly larger over both. So, I guess it depends on how and when you want to wear it. I'd say you've got a good all-rounder. Or, do what most of us jacket nuts do and...
Yes, they can 'retrofit' a vertical pocket. I had a Highwayman re-lined last year and at the same time requested a pocket. Turned out very well, like it had always been there.
Not sure on the customer supplied lining but i'm sure Amanda could give an answer quickly.
Griff, I have a couple of Stormriders, one original from the 70's and a repro by Japanese denim fanatics Warehouse. They are both quite snug compared to a Highwayman and suggest you go for a 40. I may be a similar size to you as I take a 38 in a Highwayman and 40 in 30s HB.
I can only add to the praise above, it looks and fits great.
How are you finding the tweed lining? I'm wondering how it compares in warmth and comfort to the wool tartans.
Brown leather jackets - especially something like the front-quarter horsehide used by Aero - seem to develop a great patina fairly quickly, after a couple of years say and there are some great examples, both vintage and newer here. However, a hard worn black leather jacket - something thats...
