I would be really interested to hear what you come up with. One of my new years resolutions is to read more so always looking for good suggestions.
I also keep an eye on the "what are you reading" thread under The Reading Room.
There are so many great ones but I would recommend haunting old bookshops and picking up everything you see. So many times I have picked up a book on someone I have never heard of and found a new obsession.
One book that I really enjoyed recently is Deborah Blum's "The Poisoner's Handbook...
Chaplin's Girl: The Life and Loves of Virginia Cherrill.
My glorious husband bought it for me for Christmas. I was so pleased because I thought he had picked up on my new chaplin obsession. Slightly disappointed when he told me it was just because "the woman on the front cover has hair like...
Shopgirl- I am sorry to hear about your father.
Flowers and pretty grips will probably be your saviours but I am sure your hair will grow back quicker than you think.
Charminglane - be prepared to read it in one sitting. It is a great read although, as a historian, I wish she cited more of her sources.
Next book is The Group by Mary McCarthy. I will not be put off by the fact it is described as a precursor to Sex and the City - its 1930s New York and I...
I gave myself a middi using c-dots tutorial and, if I had done it a little shorter in the back, I think it would have done the trick for this type of hairstyle. But again does depend on the styling technique.
The Poisoner's Handbook by Deborah Blum. Murder, Jazz Age, New York AND it freaks my boyfriend out when I read it before preparing lunch. What more could you want?
I love that picture of the lady in green with the beautiful red hair. makes me want to get to the hairdressers immediately.
And Kiri - your hair is absolutely stunning. love the wave and I think you have a beautiful shaped face.
I am not sure if this has been posted yet but I just got an email about a site called www.historypin.com which is a new website where people can share their old snaps and the stories behind them.
It is being advertied as a kind of digital time machine where you click on a street or favourite...
Its a scary amount of time to spend on one, not particularly large, part of your body isn't it?
But I usually break it down to a couple of minutes here and there throughout the day (I work from home). Its a routine - after I take a comfort break :) I spend a couple of minutes plucking and...
For me I find the best thing to do is to make being vintage a no-brainer. Normally I try and wear dresses every day, full makeup and I always pin curl my hair each night. But when it gets busy and I just don't have time I roll out my slacker outfit - high waisted blue trousers and hand knitted...
Tweeze, trim, tweeze some more, wax occasionally.
I have gone way way thinner than my natural eyebrow shape and I spend about ten minutes every day doing them. Then every month or so I wax as well.
God - this makes me sound incredibly hairy but I just get these really tiny deep rooted...
The most disappointing comment I have had recently was last weekend at Vintage Goodwood. I had stepped outside my normal comfort zone (40s) and did a full 60s look with huge beehive, cute dress and black eyeliner and a lady complimented me on my 40s look. Obviously my inner 40s just shines...
