Your blue skirt is really pretty - I especially love how well it looks with that adorable peasant blouse!
Here's my latest - a Valentine frock inspired by a dress worn by Ginger Rogers in Carefree.

Good luck on your sewing course, LinaSofia - can't wait to see what you make first!
Yesterday I completed this skirt from McCall's "instant" 1-yard pattern - having started it two years ago!

I totally agree with what the other posters have said - there's no need to limit yourself to an era. Although I mainly love recreating the look of the early 40s, I'll happily wear my hair in victory rolls with an early 60s dress.

I just came across this thread and thought I'd add my recent series on Sailor Style - I traced the evolution of sailor dresses from Victorian era to 1970s.
Part 1: Nautical Fashion is Born
Part 2: The Rise of the Middy
Part 3: Nautical Sails Again (my favourite!)
Part 4: Wartime...
This is my first attempt at proper tailoring, and it was a long time in the making - I started it back at the beginning of January. I made a few adjustments to the original pattern, which I've blogged about here: The Cherry Pie Dress.
I got mine on ebay UK, it's a wool/rayon blend and it's pretty nice. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300452502248&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT
I dress quite "normal" most of the time, it just happens that a lot of what I wear is vintage. I've always worn skirts and dresses (never been able to get trousers to fit since I was a teen) I don't think I particularly look "dressed up" in a mid-40s shirtwaist day dress or knee-length skirt and...
Has anyone used Vintage Vogue 7464 (Hats)?
I'm struggling hugely with the last few instructions on hat B in this pattern, and I was wondering if anyone else had used it. It doesn't help that there are no pictures or illustrations of what the back of the hat should look like.
I just came across this thread and I thought it was worth reviving. That suit of Marilyn's from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes is among my favourite ever movie costumes and I've been searching in vain for a sewing pattern for a similar one. In fact most of the costumes in that film are on my wishlist...
My third sewing project from a vintage pattern! I used a 1950s jumper dress pattern, changing the neckline from V to sweetheart. I'll definitely use this pattern again, but next time I'll do the Full Bust Adjustment pattern alterations.
The birdie dress is wonderful! I think it would be great for work. If you're on a budget though, why not try etsy or ebay for something similar - you can often pick up an original 50s dress for under $65.
I'm in the process of narrowing down my etsy faves to which are essentials (and beyond...

I don't feel that autumn colours do much for me, so I go straight into winter jewel tones - pillarbox red, forest green, navy blue. And of course I love me a good tartan! I'm planning to sew a tartan jumper dress - although at the rate I sew, it's more likely to be ready in time for next autumn...
gosh, so many of the posters had great personal style even before getting into vintage! I was so utterly without style it's embarrassing! Even so, here goes...
Before (even before vintage, I always wore skirts and dresses):
And now:
Perhaps the biggest single improvement has been starting...
Not being able to wear heels defo doesn't preclude vintage! Ballet flats and loafers have already been suggested, and both can be worn with skirts. "Granny" shoes were popular in the 40s (as evidenced in the shoe adverts I blogged a while ago - 1943 in Shoes).
These vintage ads prove you can...
Thank you! I confess I didn't do the umbrella myself, that's from New Look (it was a bargain too!)
I'm going to sew myself a Swirl-alike too - I've got the fabric already. I have tooo many projects planned haha!
