    The Black Hat Brigade

I really do like black fedoras, of which I have at least a couple. They tend to go with any clothing. Either short or wide brim hats look good. They've only got one drawback: PET HAIR. Black hats are a magnet for pet hair, especially cat hair. It's hard to get rid of the pet hair, even...

    Vintage Eyeglasses

What I like about them is that they appear to be good solid wearable frames, as well as being a good looking style.

    Vintage Eyeglasses

Agreed. I can vouch for the Rimways. I've been wearing them for over twenty years. Rimways are semi-rimless, drill mount frames. I've got them with cable temples. They are very comfortable to wear and are very durable. To illustrate, I picked up my glasses one day to put them on, dropped...

Brims - How do you like them

For me it's always Wide Brim hats, brim down in the front and down in the back ;)

    30s glasses

I tend to like the last two the best. (But then I've got something similar to those.) The shape of the frames are more natural than the round ones, and the gold color blends in well with hair and skin color. The good thing is that just about any glasses style at all is actually "in style"...

Vintage Picking and Road Tripping with Dinerman

Great thread Dinerman, enjoyable to read of your adventures. I get a kick out of those photos of you with your loot and the big grin on your face! :D We should all be so lucky. Way to go! Next time I'm in Billings, I'm just going to have to stop by some of the antique stores.

Wearing a fedora when it's windy

Or even a baseball cap! Better to lose a ball cap than a nice (expensive) fedora:eeek:

Wearing a fedora when it's windy

Just wear a snug hat and keep a hand free and you'll be fine! If you've got a real nice hat and it won't stay on your head in the wind, then carry it! A snug wool fedora tends to fit better on the head in the wind than does a felt fedora!

    Gloves

I don't often wear really nice gloves, but if I've learned one thing about gloves it is to NEVER wear a pair of fine leather gloves for activities such as driving a car or shoveling snow :eeek: They'll be ruined in no time at all .

The limits of dry cleaning (or how a cat might have ruined a favourite shirt).

If all else fails you can always wear the shirt for very "casual" wear, perhaps with a favorite beater hat , or just donate it to a thrift shop.

    Golden Era Men's Shorts

    Yikes! I'm speechless :eeek:

My first hat - Akubra Snowy River

Way to Go! Congratulations. Once you get started, there's no stopping this addiction:eeek::D

    Pants - Pleated or Flat

Pleats with cuffs for me. I just think they look better on me, and I like the look.

    Vintage Eyeglasses

bombin: "I certainly like the cable temples better overall - my old specs with skull temples always slip down my nose." BINGO! This was always my problem with the sixties retro black plastic frames which are so popular right now. My solution was to frequently take a clean handkerchief...

Ask a question, get an answer

I've been trying to figure this out for the last ten years or so, ever since I got seriously interested in hats! Experience is right! I'll look over the hat, smell it, feel it, and decide I know the answer. Then, if I can somehow find an identifying label, almost inevitably I'm wrong :eeek...

    Vintage Eyeglasses

bombin: You might want to try loosening the cable temples if they are a bit too tight, then tightening them up again at a later date if you want. Just remember that the "weak link" is where the "spongy" part attaches to the "solid" part of the temple. So with thumb and forefinger of one hand...

    Vintage Eyeglasses

bombin: I've been wearing (Art Craft) Rimways with the cable temples for over 20 years now. You can get the clear plastic covers from your optometrist (should be free or a nominal charge when you buy the lenses). They do help keep the temples from irritating your ears. After a few months...

Not sure about sun glasses per se, but here's one web site on pince-nez worth exploring: http://pincenez1.blogspot.com/

    Vintage Eyeglasses

I wear the same style, also modern-production, but the Artcraft Rimways. They're the most comfortable frames I've ever had. Anyway, a couple of years ago, I was putting them on or off when I happened to drop them, and catching them instinctively I just about about folded them closed at the...
