Does anyone know if any of these products add a shine to the leather? By that I mean should you go only to the edge of the colour/artwork, or can you just paint it on without worrying if it overlaps onto plain leather without leaving a shine, or discolouring. Hope that made sense.
Looooooove Duxford.
But also wanted to mention the Muckleburgh collection in Norfolk http://www.muckleburgh.co.uk/ and The combined military services museum, Maldon, Essex. http://www.cmsm.co.uk/ These small museum's are little gems and we need to support these places.
As far as I know. IF wearing an A2. You wear the winged prop on the left collar. The rank goes onto the right collar. Wings go on the left breast pocket. The medal bars (if they wore them on the shirt), would go under the wings above the pocket. I believe that the wings were the smaller 2 inch...
I like the work of Michael Turner. Here are some examples. http://www.military-art.com/mall/artist.php?ArtistID=11
This is a good aviation art site http://www.aviation-art-world.com/index.html
Hi.
Can't help with Hurricane nose art, but here's a good website for pin up girl reference. I use it for ideas when I paint A2 jackets.

Thanks for getting back Jim. After talking to other people who paint onto leather, the most popular paint seems to be acrylic paint.

Once...
Jim.
These are great! Could you tell me what you use for weather proofing, as I have started out painting nose art on A2 jackets. Mainly as a hobby, but I have sold one and now have a commission. So it would be good to have additional protection for the artwork. Each jacket is dedicated to a...
Have a look at this as well. Clips from Clark Gables WW2 documentary, 'Combat America.' Plenty of A2 and other stuff in colour.
Clark Gable flew several missions as a gunner.

Duxford air museum is having a Sally B and Friends Day. This is a brand new event honouring B-17 Flying Fortress G-BEDF Sally B, currently the only B-17 flying in Europe after the retirement of the 'Pink Lady.'
31 July. There is no additional cost for this.
See you there!
Bingo
oh.
I have to recommend 'The Schweinfurt Regensburg mission,' by Historian and author Martin Middlebrook
It is a truly brilliant account of one of the Mighty Eighths fiercest air battles of WW2.
Great suggestions.
how about 'I flew for the Fuhrer'? This is about the German Ace Heinz Knoke, from the start of his career to the end.
Interesting to read it from the German point of view. A great book.
Some guy made a short film of some of the extracts from the book...
