I didn't catch this thread until now. Can we use this thread for "show us your boring ties" to keep the riffraff out of the "show us your ties" thread?;):p
Residing in the States, I don't know that I've ever come across the brands you're all sharing. Interesting collection with some fine...
I'm with Metatron. Dawn liquid dish soap is a PH neutral detergent and best for washing vintage anything--cotton, wool, rayon, etc. Woolite, while largely advertised as the gentle fabric cleaner, in fact has a higher PH than an ideal cleanser for natural fabrics, and most general-purpose...
Thanks for the complements all. I'm hoping I run across another such project, although it took me years and good luck to find this one in a thrift store.
I had a chance to finish the fedora today. The last couple days, I let the re-sewn sweatband stretch out around a cooking pot that happens to be nearly my exact head circumference. I sewed in the sweat, followed by the ribbon, followed by the lining. I then spent time steaming and working the...
Thanks, Tony. Yes, I wish I had some professional tools as well, but I just don't do this kind of stuff enough to justify the purchase. A couple years ago, I found a Royal Stetson in filthy condition, and I ended up removing the lining and ribbon to wash the felt; I didn't remove the sweat and...
Good things to remember, Nik. Coincidentally, I have a 17j, 4-adjustment 1947 Elgin that I love and use daily for work. My local watchmaker performed a COA last November when I first purchased the watch off eBay. It kept great time, but two months ago stopped running at 2:39. When I noticed...
I swung by a thrift store today, and, to my surprise, found a Harry Rolnick Resistol Beaver Twenty in the hat pile. The sweatband/felt labels show size 7, but it is a large 7 and almost fits my 7-1/8 noggin. It was dirty, had the green sweatband reed corrosion saturated through the felt, had a...
Agreed. Nik, you've been listing some beautiful watches for great prices, and it's hard to find such watches from someone you can trust on the internet. If I weren't saving for an upcoming move, I'd be seriously considering the watch. Good luck.
I can't speak for boots, but I wore a pair of kangaroo motorcycle gloves when I used to ride--a lot. Even on hot days, I never had an issue with my hands sweating. As Babmaboots says, the hide is very supple.
A tie for a nice start to Friday with cold ales in the future at happy hour. I saved this tie from someone who thought it was only good for crafts. It had a nasty stain down the blade and the overall colors were muddy, and the lining was torn and loose--cheap price, though, for this Dali...
I agree. To me, the idea that the "buyer should beware and do his own research" and that contributing FL members all of a sudden become impertinent if they correct a seller's oversight/error/misleading statement or question a seller's comments seems like behavior expected at an impersonal flea...
